I'm new to the forum and perhaps someone knows if the engine stop/start feature on the new- for -2016, 2017 GC can be turned off such that you don't have to push the stop/start button each time you use your new GC?

I also was not aware of the s/s being added to the 2016 and I didn't bother test driving it. I was slightly annoyed when I discovered how s/s works but I'll get over it and use the button. I'm also discovering how ECO mode affects the tranny. On one hand I should leave these things on to save $$ but on the other hand they ruin the driving experience.

I mostly miss my HEMI that my mom has now... :(

Empathy & understanding all around ! I'm "learning" to dislike that s/s too, especially when pulling into the garage at night . . . so I've "adjusted" into a new "habit" of turning it off as I pull into my apartments driveway & when I hit the door open button, pull in, No problem ! Who says an Old Dog can't learn new tricks ? HA !:D :)

This may have been highlighted before on Jeep Garage, but I found this on another website regarding disconnecting the hood sensor to disable Start/Stop:

Unplugging the hood sensor works great. The only issue is that, on the 2016 Cherokee, the idiot light on the dash stays lit continuously, alerting you that the Auto On/Off is turned off. I can deal with that. A bid thanks to whoever figured out this trick.

S'O', that quote reads "Cherokee" not "Grand Cherokee", so it may or may not be a possible solution if the Start/Stop system is different between these separate vehicle designs.

If someone has available a schematic of the wiring layout on the brake pedal switch on a 2016 with a pentastar- the answer to a disable solution may be in that.

There seems to be a 2nd stage to the pedal, in which ESS activates only if pressed all the way down. less pressure does not activate it.

The 2nd stage could possibly be disconnected or connected permanently.

Anybody know whether there are any differences at all in how ESS works on a 2017 vs. a 2016, or if it's exactly the same in all particulars? I'm wondering if they tweaked it in response to feedback.

Stop Start memory of last setting !!!

After several weeks of work, I have created a prototype OBDII module that memorizes the last STOP-START OFF setting and restores it when you turn on the ignition on your 2016 or 2017 3.6 liter Grand Cherokee.
I know this will make a number of you very happy!

I expect to start shipping them in October or November.
There is a sign-up sheet on my website so I can gauge the size of the initial production run.

As a bonus feature, it also memorizes and restores the state of the SPORT button!

Here is the sign-up website: www.smartstopstart.com. There is no cost or obligation to sign up for notification of availability.

There is a video demo there also (sorry the audio is slightly out of sync, I need to redo it).

Does it effectively then simply change the default state to "Off," so you can still choose to turn it back on if you want to by pressing the button?

I find it fascinating that there are so many people pissed off with the fact you have to push a button to start a car and, heaven forbid, you have to press the same button to stop the car. When you think that a country is going to elect Donald Trump as the President, all else seems sane.

My Stop/Start no longer works on my 2016 GC Summit 3.6 after installing a sprint booster.

One thing to note regarding SmartStopStart is that it is a memory device that remembers your ESS (and SPORT) settings between drives. It is not a permanent ESS disable device. Therefore, in cases were ESS might actually be desired by some drivers, like extended periods of stop and go driving, you can still turn the feature back on.

Everything has been reset, more than once!....and it is not anywhere even close to consistent or even remotely repeatable. Bought it new. Using the same fob...the one with the War Amps key tag.
Checked the seat presets....1 and two are almost the same.......only the seat-back recline is different.....push one....back leans back....2 and back leans forward....1 and back leans back. Once in a while it will be in a completely different position. It does not seem to move the steering wheel though.I do believe I will start calling my Jeep CASPER! Or maybe I will look up the names of the Gremlins from the movie..... Vegetable gremlin, as the brain on my Jeep seems to be in a vegetative state.

Cruise is off
