Steering wheel replacement - 2015 Overland

In October I received my 2015 Overland that I had ordered. Upon receipt and before leaving the dealership, I noticed some cosmetic issues that the dealer promised to fix. Namely, the plastic metallic trim on the steering wheel had two small gouges and the trim around the gear shift knob was also scratched.

According to the service department, they have to replace the entire steering wheel (due to airbag) which is somewhat concerning to me with all the control switches and stuff built into the steering wheel. They have me set for an appointment in two weeks and now I am having second thoughts as to whether it is worth the hassle.

Does anyone know if the entire steering wheel has to be replaced just to replace the decorative plastic/metallic looking trim?

Thanks

Re: Steering wheel replacement - 2015 Overland

That sounds crazy. I cant say for sure on the 2015 but on the 2012 I had the parts were available seperately as well as every other CHrysler car I have had going back to 2005... I know on the 2015 the airbag itslef is available seperately...

I dont have time to look more into it right this minute to identify part numbers but I did find this picture online that shows seperate part identifiers for all of the parts...

Aside from the airbag, it may just plain be a cleaner and faster install to replace the whole assembly by removing the existing, unplugging the harness, and repeat in reverse for the new wheel assembly.

I hope that replacing the whole thing will keep everything "tight." I'm sure the dealer thinks I'm nit-picking over a few small cosmetic issues, but when I pay $43k for a new vehicle, I don't want to look a used vehicle blemishes every time I get in.

Per the diagram in the first reply, I am referring to part #6.

Thanks

Re: Steering wheel replacement - 2015 Overland

My steering wheel arrived damaged when delivered.
My selling dealer had a complete new steering wheel in 2 days and did the install in about 45 minutes.

Mine is fine, but I have heard of this issue. Everything worked out fine. Don't worry.
