Re: Strap for front tow hooks

It sucks that Jeep would advertise something they recommend NOT doing in the manual....

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

I guess it comes down to a possible bent tow hook or a possible bent frame. I'll replace the bent hook for $145, hell you'd spend $145 just getting it on a Black Hawk frame machine before the first pull was ever made to straighten it.

I would recommend getting a RATED Receiver Shackle. It will look something like this. Again, the best part to pull from is the center of the truck.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

Get a long bridle to minimize the sideways forces.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

Now the problem is finding a decent Bridle...
I want one with a protective piece in the middle to protect the bridle from being frayed or torn.

Anyone know where I can order on of these?

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

I looked on ebay and saw some "tree saver" straps that are about 10' long and have a wear pad in the middle to saver tree bark from rubbing if you were using a tree as an anchor in a winch out. This would work is conjunction with a regular recovery strap.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

I have read that using a tree saver is not a great idea. It is more meant to be used with a winch and not a "jolt" of energy. Also I have not seen a good one that has the center webbing protection.

I really want to find a dedicated Bridle.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

So is there a consensus on whether or not to use tow hooks 1) both at the same time or 2) one side and pull straight on?

Doesn't the manual say to use both at same time?

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

Pulling from the front is better, you get better grip w the weight of the engine, but I would not use both hook. They are open in the middle.....and remember to have your weels strait at all times (for your shaft)....
