Strap for front tow hooks

Anyone know a good strap that can be used in conjunction with either a snatch or tow strap? I know it is much better to distribute the weight between the two hooks than to use just one... Even though in the commercial they show a rescue using just one.

I would like something of ARB quality or better. I suppose I could use an ARB Tree Saver, but 10' seems a bit too long.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

Smittybilt is what I use, very durable. Reasonably priced. Try Ebay and search for Smittybilt strap. I'm sure there are better straps but it has done the job for me, couple cars out of the ditch in the Chicago snowstorm. 1 hook used on the front of my X and this strap did the job. In case anyone wonders it was a GMC Arcadia that rode up on the snow, had to drag him off as he was lifted by the body.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

I am not looking for tow or snatch straps, I have those under control. I am looking for something the go between both front tow hooks to evenly distribute the weight so there is no strain on just one side of the jeep.

After poking around some more I was able to find the name and it is called a "Bridle". Here is a video of how to properly use one. Now I just need to find a good one.

Skip ahead to 1:35 to see it in action:

with oem hooks NEVER wrap them both in the same recovery. if you put sideways stress on them the WILL BEND. they are made to be pulled straight on but CANNOT handlemuch side to side.....

So are you saying not to use a product like this? Or are you saying to get better front recovery parts?

All reading I have done says it is much better to even the load than to use only one hook.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

im saying, as I have read on other JEEP forums, that the tow hooks will BEND if you pull them from the sides.

so if you put your strap across them both, that would put side pressure and could cause them to bend.

ask the more off-road crew like red rocker and acid cold.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

use one at a time, not both. rob is right, using that product can damage the hooks

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

so why is jeep special? Every single thing I have read says to distribute the weight between both front hooks because you can actually torque your frame and do damage.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

I've never done any hardcore four wheeling, but the times I have gone "mudding" with buddies and someone got stuck we always pulled from both hooks. The idea of only pulling on one hook would make me fear "racking" the frame. Last thing I want is my Jeep to be dog trailing down the road.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

I have seen these, you would run it through both hooks and create a yoke point out front.

Re: Strap for front tow hooks

Per page 472 of the 2011 Grand Cherokee owners manual:

EMERGENCY TOW HOOKS — IF EQUIPPED
If your vehicle is equipped with tow hooks, there will be
one in the rear and two mounted on the front of the
vehicle. The rear hook will be located on the driver’s side
of the vehicle.
NOTE:
For off-road recovery, it is recommended to use
both of the front tow hooks to minimize the risk of

damage to the vehicle.

I don't know how to give rep but if I did you would be getting some.

Thanks bro.

Edit... figured it out!
