Question Strength / load ability of the panoramic sunroof

We received a cargo bag (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0024ALBJ8) for an upcoming trip and are concerned about using it on our sunroof. Does anyone have information regarding the strength / ability of the panoramic sunroof to accept a load? Has anyone used a bag like this with the panoramic sunroof?

Although the glass is tempered, I wouldn't put anything on the glass. Get the crossbars and attach your load to them which transfers the weight to the siderails that are mounted to the steel portion of the roof. Even those have a limit of 150 lbs.

Thanks for the quick reply. I assumed that would be best... Unfortunately it's a soft carrier so I suppose I'll need 3-4 crossbars.

Re: Strength / load ability of the panoramic sunroof

Doesn't Jeep offer a soft cargo accessory that works with the pano roof? If so you may want to check out its instructions.

There doesn't appear to be sunroof exclusions but the weight limit is like 100 pounds.

You can get a cargo tray that fits to the cross rails. Google Thule or rhino racks.

Re: Strength / load ability of the panoramic sunroof

Why not use a hitch rack?? It doesn't affect wind resistance and it is more protected...plus you don't have to break your back getting everything up there and it is way cheaper.....and it holds 500lbs!

I just don't see a plus with putting cargo on the roof, unless it is over 3-4'.

Re: Strength / load ability of the panoramic sunroof

Have to get some cross rails. i'm a huge fan of the Thule M.O.A.B. also. It's lightweight, can be installed in less than 15 minutes and you only need one person to put it up. Check backcountry.com. Sometimes they will have all the Thule stuff for 20% off. The MOAB also works with either the Mopar cross rails or the Thule Aero Bars (which I have). And your Jeep looks like it's ready for a expedition with the basket up top.

Not really. The factory crossbars are adjustable, front to back. You could also put a panel or board underneath to support the cargo bag, which should support any sagging.
