Stupid question - under seat panels?

I think I figured out the answer but wanted to ask anyway in case someone else was wondering. I noticed under both of my front seats the floor panels are bent upwards, with an opening facing the back seat floor. It sounds like our car battery is stored under the seats (with a second batter for diesels?) Does this panel allow some sort of cooling? Should my floor mats be placed under or over the lip? Or is something wrong with my car?

Seems weird and somewhat dangerous - what if someone spills a drink or something in the back seat?

Re: Stupid question - under seat panels?

They are used as part of the ejector seat option - Build Code: WEEE for the one with parachute and Build Code: ONOO for the one without.

Seriously though, I think the passenger one is for the battery and the other is empty or full depending on certain options. I haven't opened my up. Sorry for the bad humor above.

Re: Stupid question - under seat panels?

Those panels are removable covers. Sounds like they are not pushed down all the way. The passenger side holds the battery. The driver side holds parts of the QudraLift system, or without that option it is additional storage.

Re: Stupid question - under seat panels?

Ejection seat - Funny!

As to not being pushed down all the way, not sure that's the issue. They both look exactly the same on each side with very distinct and what appears to be intentional "lips" that create the openings. I can lift the panel up by this lip, and it's big enough to slide the top part of my all weather mats underneath, but that's about it. Could it be a change for 2015?

Re: Stupid question - under seat panels?

Could it be there so you can get your fingers in to lift it?

Re: Stupid question - under seat panels?

Could be, I just want to make sure it's normal. Seems that if you can get fingers underneath it then other things can get down there as well (dirt, liquids, cheerios, GI Joe action figures with the kung fu grip, etc - I have a son). If there's delicate/sensitive parts down there I'd like to be extra careful. So to speak.

Post a picture. The covers do have a "lip" of a sort so you can get your fingers under them to pop the covers open for access. The lip generally does sit fairly flush but without a picture it's hard to tell if it's normal or not.

Re: Stupid question - under seat panels?

HI, below the passenger seat you find your battery, below the drivers seat there are one million wires and cables and electronics...at least in mine !, dont know if its for the ejection seat...or to fire misiles like James Bond does..
The lip is there but since its kind of hard to open I never even thought of the chance of something slipping down into those compartments.
Have a great weekend !

And that's exactly why I asked the question about water getting into the cabin during a water crossing that is higher than the door bottoms. If water does manage to get inside, it seems like a recipe for disaster as it finds its way into those compartments.

Re: Stupid question - under seat panels?

Well, what can I say...I guess if you get lots of water inside the cabin there is a risk of something getting damaged ?..my concern would be more the leather than some wires...but at least in my case I did some water crossing with pretty high water and not a single drop inside the cabin.
My suggestion ?, go out enjoy your Jeep and dont think of all the bad things that might happen, just think positive and everything will be fine.
Have a great day
