I agree with the people who stated the EQ changes everytime you turn off the car. Check that. It's really annoying and I hope a fix is in the works.

Re: Subwoofer too loud - Grand Cherokee 2014 Limited

I have a 2015 overland and the low end is absolutely awful. I have installed multiple car audio systems and home theater systems. I am not a pro, but I understand audio and something is definitely wrong, either in the design or the assembly. Depending on the song, sometimes there is no bass (i.e. john denver song) or the complete opposite and EXTREMELY boomy muddy bass (i.e. with a modern hip-hop song). Very little in between. And this is using my own lossless ripped CD music and converted to 320kbps MP3s (in other words lossy but completely transparent) and placed on the SD Card.

Trust me when I say that something is off. The system CAN sound ok, but there is a major problem with the design or the electronics controlling the low-end output.

Completely agree with everyone in this thread and especially your position on this Seeingwhite. I am glad to see that I am not the only one noticing this. It's really difficult to argue about "too muddy bass" with your dealership because it's such a personal topic.
Just like you I am not a pro when it comes to sound systems but I do have pretty good ears and hear a lot of things that my wife usually comments as "What are you talking about!?"

When listening to 80s XM channel I usually need to bump the bass up because it's too weak but for most other stations the bass is very muddy and overwhelming (especially electronic/hip-hop or any other music that has strong bass). Again, totally agree with you - very little in between.

Something isn't balanced here. I swear the music sounds better on my wife's little Civic 4-speaker system than in my 9-speaker Grand Cherokee (at least more balanced). One thing I noticed about playing music from my phone through Bluetooth: if I decrease the output volume on my phone and increase volume on Jeep's stereo it noticeably helps with the bass issue. I just wonder how much is that affecting the overall sound quality since the best practice is always to maximize the input volume. Could it be that uConnect is over-amplifying the input signal?

There must be something that software could address regarding this. One thing I can think of would be to remember EQ settings per input. Second would be to have more EQ bands available since this is all software.

Agree 100% with this, and why not have global presets for each input. Why swap input to get certain presets. Unless I am doing something wrong.

Greetings,

I have been saying this since 2011.

And boy is it off.

In all seriousness, this has been an on going problem from the beginning and it baffles me why Chrysler has not stepped up to the plate to correct the DSP and some speaker drivers. I am convinced after all these years they feel it meets their target audience and nothing else matters. If you want a better factory sound system in GC then you have to look into the Summit or SRT with the HK and the LOGIC 7 built-in to the DSP. Even the HK system has a mixed reception as shown in the following thread:

From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Interesting, other car manufactures have got the message and have made slight improvements that have made a difference in their audio systems.

Best for now.

Re: Subwoofer too loud - Grand Cherokee 2014 Limited

I have the 2014 Altitude (no sub) but find the bass overwhelming with the EQ zeroed out. I've finally settled on -6 for the bass for sound that pleases my ear.

And no im not some old fart (turn down your bass!) guy, I've had sound systems in cars, have two subs at home for home audio.

FYI, my April build date doesn't have the issue with the EQ settings going back to zero (at least when I look at the settings it still says -6 for bass)

Re: Subwoofer too loud - Grand Cherokee 2014 Limited

Ahhh... you might find it still shows your previous setting, but has actually normalised to zero.

To test, have your settings as you describe. Leave the car for a period. When you restart the car, adjust the bass up a notch... on my previous system the bass would actually reduce as it's gone from zero to -5... but the display would indicate it went from -6 to -5.

I didn't realise that I'd struggle to explain that!

Cheers,
Steve
