We'll see. I'm sure it will be a nice transmission in time for those who don't mind the gear change frequency, but I'm not super concerned with it. I certainly won't be going for a 2014 model, possibly a 2015. But by then, there's going to be a lot of other new vehicles on the market.

My point is, it doesn't make sense to wait at least a year to be the guinea pig for it.

Thanks or chumming in Milous. So in your mind it is worth passing on the 2012 and holding out for a 2014? Will the performance really be that much better?

Ditto....just spent a week driving my brother's Bimmer X6 4.4 with basically the same 8 speed that Jeep will use . Goes like a rocket, always in the correct gear for performance, shifts are very smooth, you don't know what gear you are in most of the time but power is always right there.
The new 8 speed in the Chrysler 300 V6 has improved acceleration tremendously. Check out the car magazines.
Once the 8 speed gets hooked up to the hemi, all of you will want to trade in your present GCs.

Yea the reviews do seem to like the 8 speed a lot, maybe it is worth waiting around for =)

Re: Summit now or wait for 2014 Overland?

I honestly was contemplating the same thing, but have decided to buy mine now, rather than wait until next year to get incremental changes and a likely higher price with degraded trade-in value for my current vehicle. The current Overland Summit has everything I really want, although the color I desire (Winter Chill) is very hard to come by...

The X6 only offers the 8 speed in the ActiveHybrid, which is damn near 500hp. The other models use their 6 speed.

That's a good point about the price. Jeep seems to be happy with raising the price of things without even adding new features or changes. Imagine what they'll do with all the upgrades for '14. It wouldn't surprise me to see the price jump by $4-5k.

Ha! No way. I'd expect a jump in price of $500 - $1000.

You are mistaken....all X6's have the 8 speed . Check BMW web site, Edmunds.com, etc.

The 2013 SRT8 got a price increase of $1000+ with no added features. When it's high price was it's biggest thing holding back sales even! There's no way they won't up the price hugely, adding the 8.4N, 8 speed transmission, and other features.

It looks like the X6 does offer the 8 speed on them all except the X6M now. I am indeed mistaken if it was a 2013 or potentially 2012.

I am thinking I am going to wait, the big improvements to the car electronics as well as the transmission upgrade seem to be worth waiting for =)
