Re: Summit - too much chrome?

It depends on your personal preference. Personally, I think the Summits look great. I think THE best looking WK2 is the Overland Summit in Mineral Grey. Thats what I would buy if I were buying one for my daily driver. My neighbor just traded his '11 red Limited in on a '12 Summit in Mineral Grey and it is *awesome*.

But...my wife doesn't care for the chrome, and thats one of the reasons we have the Laredo X.

I love my rugged brown Summit as well. I think the chrome looks great and it goes real well with the saddle interior.

Agreed, salesman said that they haven't to date had that many rugged brown Summits in. He said maybe 2 for the 2011 MY and just got in 2 2012s (including the one I picked up). And said that customers and even several other salespeople were checking it out after it was all prepped.

I think overall the color combo looks great, everyone I know that has seen it loves it.

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

I think chrome can look cheaper than a vehicle that has everything color matched.

Personally, I wish there was LESS chrome on my Overland; particularly the side mirrors.

I agree. I'm normally not a chrome person. I saw a chromed out red Wrangler and thought it looked disgusting. I thought the Mineral Grey Overland would be missing something without it though.

Yeah, I'm kind of disapointed in the chrome strip on the back hatch.
I've only had my Jeep since beginning of December (2011) and already the chrome strip is corroding like crazy.

I had the chrome emblems on my Dodge Grand Caravan replaced twice under warranty. The 19" Chrome wheels on my Pacifica were replaced twice under warranty.
The second time, they said no more. The only solution was not to use them in the winter. So I bought winter wheels.
How does the chrome plastic turn to crap? I don't think I've ever seen this. Does the plastic flake off or something?

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

I've never had an issue with factory chrome.
Aftermarket chrome... that's a whole other issue.

The chrome strip on the back hatch is plastic chrome... how can plastic chrome corrode?

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

I generally look at it like this:

Body colored > Chrome > Black plastic

I would prefer the mirrors and other trim be body colored, but I would rather have chrome covers or chromed plastic instead of the nasty black plastic that fades after a few years.

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

My silver Overland has all the chrome except the grill. That was too much plastic chrome for my taste. An option may be to go to an Overland grill, and the black fog light bezels.

I have never cared for chrome on vehicles and in the past actively worked to remove it in some cases. But I really think the chrome looks good on the WK2 summit. When I see a WK2 without it I feel a little special.
