Re: Summit - too much chrome?

I was never a fan of chrome, but I loved every WK2 GC I met on the road. My Limited came with too much chrome for me to wanna de-chrome it. So I embraced with with a summit grill and a stainless bull bar. I personally love the sharp contrast of chrome/red pearl. I'm jealous of you blacked out GC's though, just too much work for myself. Regardless, gorgeous vehicles and I love the personalization this forum promotes!

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

I've never been a big chrome fan.....my Audi is de-chromed with black wheels but this time around I went the other direction. Went with the summit package and now I want to get the 22" SRT wheels in polish alum or maybe chrome.......oh yeah staggered also.

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

Ha! Bought the Overland in dark forest green and added the Summit grill and other chrome. Twice I've been confronted and asked, "How'd you get a green summit?!"

I like the chrome on the green, silver and black, but on some colors I prefer the black plastic elements.

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

Personally, I happen to like the chrome on my Summit and am not drawn at all to the mods that remove such things. This is a very subjective thing...and it's great that we all have choices!

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

Oh...and if anyone wants to buy/trade me something cool I have the original grill from my Overland in the box in my garage that I don't need. The dealer handed it over when they installed the Summit grill. It's got about a 100 miles on it!

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

I 100% agree with the original post. Jeep went overboard on the chrome. At least in So Cal, chrome is definitely not as popular as it once was 10 years ago. That's why the Altitude is so popular out here. A majority of the Summit drivers I see on the road are elderly for some reason. I guess the "luxury" is more of an importance to them. My Altitude purchase was to build a more of a "sporty" Jeep for my wife.

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

Oh boy. The reason why Summits and Overlands are often driven by older folks is the price! I see younger drivers in the Laredos and Limited models because they're more likely to be able to afford them. Simple stuff. When I was 30 I bought a Nissan 240sx because I couldn't afford the 300 twin turbo. I'm 49 and the Altitude looks like something designed for a younger person anyway, but that's just MY taste.
Again, I like the chrome on some colors. But Summit owners can remove chrome and Laredo owners can add it. This is cosmetic only and not important compared to engines or even ventilated seats!
Kind of a silly thread! It's your car, do what YOU like and don't seek affirmation from others.

BTW, cheap looking black plastic looks a lot better when it's chromed!

When I saw your Jeep and then you said it was green I almost asked the exact same question as you wrote above, "how did you get a green summit?"

Re: Summit - too much chrome?

I was looking at the pictures for the 2014 models and it appears Jeep has been listening to many people here. Door handles, outside mirrors and the side door emblem have all lost the chrome. It'll be interesting to see how the front and back look and if they still retain any of the chrome that the current summit models have.

This is the "Jersey Shore effect". Do you wear Affliction or Tap Out shirts too? You're just trading one fad for another. I don't like bright shiny things nor do I like the "murdered out" look even though black is one of my favorite colors. It's just one extreme to the other. Do what you want but IMO, the lamest thing you could do is give into peer pressure and do what all the other cool kids are doing.
