Re: Sun Roof Pop Up Bug Screen ??

I leave everything shut and turn on the AC. Much more relaxing and I can hear the stereo better.

I would LOVE to find a plastic deflector that would fit over the pop up fabric one. I'd bet it would be MUCH more quiet and without as much buffeting. My Maxima had one and I loved how quiet it was when the sunroof was open. Been too lazy/busy to try to find one.

I do much the same. This is the first vehicle I've ever owned with a sun roof. It will be my last. Too noisy and so much light coming in I can't see the instrument panel. $1K wasted. I'm just glad the thing never sees rain. I'm sure if it did, down the road I would wind up with leaking problems.

no speed restriction... I might have gone 120+ with the sunroof wide open...

Re: Sun Roof Pop Up Bug Screen ??

dcorn:

The supplier of the "big" (panoramic) sunroof system is different from that of the "small" (single panel) sunroof system in our WK2s. That is why the sunroof's air dam material is different.

Regarding having the sunroof fully open and no windows down: this is a free country; and you can do what you want: hell; you can even cut the air dam off, if you feel so obliged.... BUT - the air dam is there so that if you would like to roll with the sunroof full open but all windows UP your ears will not be punished...

Not only that, but it sounds like a lot of folks here haven't hit an area of the highway where the bugs swarm. There's a two- or three-mile stretch on Ocean Parkway, Long Island where your windshield is just plastered with bug guts after passing through.

It was hell on that fabric screen. Never got it clean before we turned in our GC. Next time, I'll know to shut the roof at the first sign of buggage.

Except at low speed cruise, I find the buffeting of the open sunroof to be excessive--unless you open a couple windows a few inches or more.

It does do a fairly decent job of catching bugs...
Best solution I have found is not to crack door windows but when roof opens fully just close it bout 1 in....no buffeting!

This works in nearly every vehicle I have driven.

The deflector does do a better job of keeping bugs out of your teeth, if that is a priority.

Just over 8 inches of rain in one evening worth of storm/tornado, at 34K+ miles, dry as a bone.
Not that there are many dry bones left in Colorado Front Range other than mine.

Kinda nice sometimes to open it up and smell the trees, plus is nice for looking up along cliffsides in the canyons for mountain goats/sheep, etc.

Wait till you get hit by a swarm of grasshoppers on CA 99 just west of Sackotomato.

It is pretty easy to clean even heavy duty bugguts with a soft toothbrush [say, your wife's] and a bit of Woolite and a rag.

2.5 years of S.Florida rains, which is a LOT of very heavy rain and zero leaks...miles and miles of offroading and no squeaks or rattles either.

Too much light? Tint is your friend, I see my instrument panel just perfect

Money well spend on my pano-roof
