The glass that slides open on the CommandView is identical to the "normal" power sunroof. The only difference between the two is that the CommandView has a fixed glass panel behind it.

And the "delete" option you see is absolutely, 100% just substituting the "normal" power sunroof for the CommandView. It is NOT a sunroof delete.

I don't see any additional reliability issue with the CommandView vs. the regular power sunroof. The portion most likely to hae issues would be the sliding portion anyway... the fixed portion is just that... fixed in place.

Hope this helps!

Re: Sunroof delete option for Limited

I am about to order Overland and trying to decide between CommandView and smaller sunroof with rear dvd. I've had a terrible experience (wind noise at highway speeds) with the panaromic roof on my '08 CTS that they could never quite fix right (no more GM for me). Anyways a couple quick questions:

With the smaller sunroof, does this increase/decrease safety of vehicle in rollover situation? Any added benefit to placing objects on the roof/rack system. i.e. holds more weight without panaromic sunroof? I've read many positive reviews about low noise level in new GC, is this everyone's experience with panaromic and smaller sunroof, same noise level or worse with one?

great forum!

No difference in roof rack capacity with different sunroofs, and the wind noise or road noise is nonexistent with my limited with panoramic compared to past vehicles.

Re: Sunroof delete option for Limited

Laredos can now have the "normal" sunroof. I'm not sure nor have I seen (or just wasn't paying attention) to a Limited or Overland with a normal sunroof. Those that DID have one had the Roof Mounted Entertainment System.

Re: Sunroof delete option for Limited

I have the panoramic and the noise is very minimal, less than my last car with standard roof. I didn't want it at first but I'm really glad I have it now.

Re: Sunroof delete option for Limited

Unlike the Jeep's roof, the big panoramic front roof section on the Edge does indeed move and it is quiet due to a windscreen that pops up when it opens. No buffetting at all, the Jeep's command view roof also have this from what I can see. The windscreen is a cloth mesh that is spring loaded on a metal frame that deploys each time the roof is opened. My issue with the Jeep command view is that although the glass area is large, only the small front section actually opens. I thought that the entire front section should open but it does not. That's why IMO just get the single pane roof and save some $. Why bother having a fixed glass over the front section if it doest not move? I don't know if the Jeep single pane roof has this windscreen as well?

If you look at the roof of the jeep compared to the size of the panoramic glass there is NO way it could possibly move. There is not enough roof left for it to slide into. As far as the fixed glass over "front section" I have a regular moveable sunroof in the "front section" with the fixed glass behind. I dont know of any that have total fixed glass on the roof. Other vehicles such as the edge have a smaller glass to roof ratio and that is probably what give it the ability to move. IMHO you dont want something that big moving just asking for leaks or other issues 5-10 years down the line.
