It's a good emergency escape hatch in case of a zombie apocalypse --- as the zombies bang on your door you can climb out the top! It's also why I have 4 wheel drive with quadra-lift!

Can you set them to close automatically when the vehicle is off? It would blow to leave it open at night by mistake and it rains lol.

No, they are just like the rest of the windows, you have to be responsible for them.

Re: Sunroof Usefullness?

I didn't want one on my first WK2 because I was paranoid about leaks as my 2002 GC had a leak in the roof rack that rotted out the rear quarter early in it's life. So I figured a Sunroof was asking for trouble. But it locked me out of features that are VERY nice to have. So ended up traded my Limited with no SunRoof to a Overland + Tech.

What a huge upgrade that was.

I like the sun roof, especially the panoramic one.

Night time on a crisp clear night (off the highway can be really nice).

Opening Sun Shade only in the Winter for a Brighter and Warmer experience.

I never actually use it for Fresh Air ever or Sun in the Summer.

As mentioned I think back seat passengers like it.

Re: Sunroof Usefullness?

While I wouldn't say I'm a "sunroof enthusiast" and I don't really open mine (to the air) very often, I do like the extra light/sun during winter months driving and those late fall/early spring days when it can be opened for fresh air while still being comfortable in the cabin, either with or without heat coming from the vents. With JGC, when one gets above "base" trim levels, it's going to be there anyway, either by default or as part of a desirable package, so one might as well enjoy it from time to time.

If you open them for fresh air while driving you hear too much road noise.

If you look up through it while driving you would have a collision.

So why does one choose to ride in a vehicle with a glass pain above their head instead of a metal roof?

You can detassel corn from your GC by standing up thru the sunroof (I'm originally from Iowa so can make the joke, and yes, I have detasseled corn before and it is hot and humid in those corn rows).

Please, don't give them ideas, OK?

I can see the NHTSA Recall Notice Now.

Notice: Strange critters may be able to crawl into your vehicle and snack upon critical vehicle control systems if the Sunroof is left open while the vehicle is unattended.

It is also kinda handy for looking for crouching mountain lions and jump bears when cruising up places like Lefthand Canyon, Golden Gate Canyon road, etc. where the side view is just of the lower part of rock walls much of the time.

It is unfortunately rare in the local area that the incredibly brief transition between winter/spring and summer/fall puts the temperature in the upper 70s where you can open it for fresh air, let the little deflector keep most bugs out, and crack the rear windows to reduce buffeting and just enjoy the !@#!@#$!@#$ commute with all of those texting @$@#$%@#$%!!!!!! around you.

Re: Sunroof Usefullness?

A sunroof is one of the first options I look for when buying a vehicle. Wouldn't own one without it. If the wind noise bothers you when it's open don't ever ride a motorcycle.

My VW CC will do that and close all the windows too. It uses the Rain Sensing Wiper sensor to trigger it. I can Open and Close all the Windows from the Key FOB too. I really like that feature.

I had to enable it through OBDII though as it was not enabled in USA by default.
