Re: Sunroof Usefullness?

You leave that roof basket on all the time? I would guess it plays hell with your highway gas mileage.

Re: Sunroof Usefullness?

I live with my sunroof open. My '12 and '14 had the regular sunroof and my '16 has the pano roof. Love it. If it's not 90+ outside, I've got all the windows and the roof wide open. Need to start wearing sunscreen on my head because of it, I've gotten burned on my forehead twice this summer from it lol. My 17mo old loves the windows open too. Only time I close the shade is if it's blistering hot outside and he's in the car with me with the sun shining down on us, or maybe at night if he's sleeping to keep the light out from the highway lamps.

Pretty soon the folks who feel the need to remove the air-bag stickers will have more work. Because you posted this there will soon be a sticker,

The Sunroof has been know to cause skin cancer.

I think only German cars have (had?) that feature. Maybe they really are smarter than we are.

My 2011 Jeep GC would open the windows from the fob (it did not have a sunroof). Unfortunately my 2016 does not open the windows with the FOB.

Seriously, can't go anywhere or do anything without being reminded that what you're doing or interacting with may cause cancer. Those stickers have had the opposite effect as I hear people jokingly say "Everything according to California gives you cancer". I'm surprised it's not in the state motto "Visiting California may cause cancer"

Re: Sunroof Usefullness?

When moving the shade (or glass), doesn't pressing and holding the button have a different effect than pressing momentarily and releasing?

For instance, I'm pretty sure you can hit vent and then move the shade where you want it.

I'm pretty sure mine just moves for as long as I hold the button when I don't do a momentary press (which would go to a predetermined position), but now I'm going to have to go try it.

This is the first vehicle I've had that has taken me more than a year (almost two) to learn all its nuances. So many toys!

If you open them for fresh air while driving you hear too much road noise.

If you look up through it while driving you would have a collision.

So why does one choose to ride in a vehicle with a glass pain above their head instead of a metal roof?
I agree with all you have said in your post. To be completely honest, the only reason I have a "Sunroof" in my Jeep Grand Cherokee, is because I bought it off the lot, and it came with it. I never would have ordered it. And I will never own one again. It is, as you so eloquently pointed out, a completely useless contraption.

I only open and close mine about once a month or so, just to cycle the damn thing. I don't like driving with it open for the reasons you stated. After owning one for a year and a half now, I must say I would be very hard pressed to come up with a better way to waste over $1K.

I'm in Southern California and I see stupid people with sunroof equipped vehicles that obviously never actually use them.

I use mine all the time. Used it today on the way to work. Opened it to let in some fresh air and wake me up for the workday.

Works way better then opening any of the side windows.
- Lets in less noise.
- Doesn't make it too easy for those around to hear what I'm listening to.
- Brightens up the cabin and almost feels like I'm in a convertible.

You should watch the road and stop looking at yourself in the mirror.
