Surpisingly Stable Overland

I am pleasantly surprised at how stable the Overland is in sport mode at speed. I'm thinking maybe next year, throwing some SRT size shoes on her and seeing what she can do on the road course.

Ironically, at speed, there is definitely some decent downforce happening as it seems to get more stable as you move faster. Almost feels like driving a previous generation American muscle car. I would have never imagined since I've really been more or less using the Jeep for either commuting or hitting the trails.

Has anyone done a road course in their Overland? She'll never be as fast as my GT, but definitely more comfortable.

Unless you restrict your road course contests to 1960's buicks, you'd get your clock cleaned. In sport mode with better tires, the thing feels a lot like a classic Jag sedan, with notable body roll, but very well controlled body roll and quite comfortable at higher speed canyon carving. Plus the Hemi performs about like the lower end of middling 80's muscle cars, only it is far more comfortable than any I ever drove.

Head east out into the boondocks and open it up... or better yet take Hwy 318 just below Ely Nev.

Re: Surpisingly Stable Overland

haha, awesome.

You know i wonder if you can turn off all the nannies. Some cars have the feature of holding the traction button for about 7 secs and turns everything off.

Anyone know if this is a possibility on the WK2?

Re: Surpisingly Stable Overland

Yeah, the JGC has a fairly soft suspension so it may not be a racetrack/cornering star but for some reason out on the highway when passing on two lane roads, when I move into the passing lane at speed it feels really solid.

IMO the softer suspension is a good fit for off-roading. I'm just pleasantly surprised at how well it handles higher speed lane changes.

Re: Surpisingly Stable Overland

I agree the Overland is stable at high speed lane changes. But it's a boat on 90 degree turns even at moderate speed. I would never take it to a track or an auto cross. It's just not designed for that. No amount of electronic controls can overcome the laws of physics. With its high center of gravity and weight, I am sure you can roll it if you don't stay within its performance envelope. I don't have any desire to find out where the outer edge of the envelope is.

Do you have the v8 or v6? The v6 is noticeably more nimble.

It's very nice, comfortable, powerful and fast... unless you have the original Goodyear tires on it and drive in the rain.
