I don't ride in the back so I don't really care my 4 & 6 yr old have plenty of room. It's a truck...its supposed to be a hard ride. Cloth is cloth. Mine handles like a dream, ok it handles better than the f150 it replaced, has more rear leg room and far more comfortable front seats. Comparing the wk2 to a WJ isn't really a fair comparison in the WJ days the competition was the Ford exploder,S series blazer, and the mercury version of the exploder...which it annihilated. Just as the WK2 destroys the current "mid grade" suv's on the market and actually competes with the "high end"

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

I don't like driving the WJ. Test drove one in '99 (and my parents have an '04). I stuck with my '98 ZJ which I loved to drive. Got a WK and enjoyed driving it and love the WK2 now. The WJ does look good still today though.

I love how my WJ drives. Drives better than my moms 2011 MB ML350...

Saying it has better rear legroom than a pickup truck isn't saying much. I can't even sit in the back seat of a WJ without sitting sideways, and I'm only 6'.

Handles like a dream?!? I just absolutely cannot understand that. The WJ's I've driven (a family member had a 2002, and I've driven others) had what was IMHO almost scary, amusement ride like handling.

Cloth is also certainly not cloth. The WJ had poor quality velour type cloth, or thin, easily cracked leather with hard, glossy plastics and switchgear quality way below what competitors had at the time. If you read previous reviews they obliterated the WJ for that reason, and the WK as well.

By that logic, should the WK2 ride poorly? Why would anybody want a vehicle to ride poorly?

Absolutely disagree, I would have not even considered a WJ compared to either a 95-01 Explorer, which I had, or a 02-05 Explorer. The 95-01 Explorer was also truck based, and rode hard, but the ride was more controlled, rear seats were far more usable, switchgear and materials were better. The 02-05 Explorer stylewise wasn't much to speak of, but it rode and drove very well having an independent rear. I took a 1.5 hour trip a couple months ago in the third row of a 2004 Mountaineer and I was surprised by how nice a vehicle it still is today. I absolutely do not feel that way about the WJ.

The first Jeep I ever even considered buying was the WK2. I only bring up the older Jeeps as an example of how far Chrysler has come with this vehicle. Always liked the look and idea of a Grand Cherokee, but the vehicle itself never appealed to me at all, I think a lot of WK2 owners who are new to the brand feel that way.

My goal is not to start a WJ war, Jeep hasn't even made the vehicle in almost 10 years...

The exploder was and remains the second biggest pile of crap ever made...right behind the focus. But hey enjoy your wk2 someday I will have one. More leg room than my f150 crew cab...

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

My 97 Explorer is still in the family, is still running and has 210,000 miles on it. Put a transmission in it at 75k, which wasn't a whole lot of fun, and have done repairs to it over the years as you would expect on a 16 year old vehicle, but its been a great vehicle. The family member who had the WK was not so fortunate, so obviously we disagree. Seeing that the Explorer always outsold the Grand Cherokee by as much as 2:1 during the SUV heyday in the 90s, and basically created the upscale midsized SUV segment, to call it the "biggest pile of crap ever made" is a stretch. Its a pretty historically significant vehicle.

The new Explorer is a very nice vehicle, we considered it heavily compared to the Jeep. It was too big for our current needs, but I could see us in one next time maybe.

Very happy with everything about the WK2 other than reliability of small electrical components.

I hope you took me seriously about the MB comment, because I was being serious. That Mercedes is a huge pile of junk coming in with an as tested of 60k.

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

I'm not a fan of the ML, but to call it a "huge pile of junk" and to say that a WJ drives better than one is fanboy nonsense, plain and simple.

Remember...the WK2 is built off a platform derived by the Mercedes ML.

I wouldn't buy one over a WK2 personally, even though the new ML is much better, but it does absolutely everything better than a WJ, except maybe climb up a rock face. I've driven these vehicles too and thats just nonsense.

It just feels way(!) too big for how big it actually is. Massive amounts of body roll and super soft brakes.

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

The WJ absolutely lumbers when cornering, and the brakes are so numb and loose with tons of pedal travel before you even get into braking power...the WJ feels like it really could roll over in a sharp corner, while the ML never feels that way.

Sorry, but the WJ does not "drive better" than any modern SUV, neither does my old Explorer. They're simply from another era.

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

The WJ was superior to the WK in every way. My 02 Overland 4.7HO was much quicker than the 06 Hemi with its ETC delay. Interior was much nicer too. I am trying to forget the WK1 era

Don't have nearly the experience with the WK I had with the WJ, I've ridden in one once maybe.
