Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

That jibes with what I've read online, that the issue is after replacement of the factory plugs, the design of the plug threads makes it too easy for the tech or owner doing the work to leave the plugs too loose.

My family has had many Fords, and while they certainly have never been perfect, they've been overall good. My old Explorer for instance had far fewer minor little glitches by this age than my WK2 has. Of course my WK2 has a lot more technology.

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

This is like one of those situations where the guy tells his friends he's really falling for this girl. He's a great guy, but she's the neighborhood whore. Nobody wants to say anything because he's so head-over-heels for her (beginning of page 1). The only people who think it's a good idea are his Y.O.L.O-type friends who are like..."well, she is pretty hot" (beginning - middle of page 1). He eventually comes to his senses (end of page 1), and all the sensible friends are like "duuuuude...finally" (pages 2-4). Personally I thought you lost your mind, but I was like those friends who were quietly saying "Oh, that's cool. If that's what you want" (all the while calling you a damn fool).

I miss the look and speed of my WK SRT8 terribly, but I also remember how terrible it was materials and space-wise.

Again, I had experience with a combusting explorer:it melted off the side of my house. My house is vinyl sided so it looked crazy, I'll see if I can't find any pictures.

They absolutely had a recall, we got a notice for the Explorer even as old as it is.

This kind of thing is more common than you would think. I know a guy who's neighbor's house burned in a terrible fire that started in his Mini Cooper which was parked in the garage. Also recalled for something that caused spontaneous fires wven when parked and off. Ironically, he had an appointment the next day to have the recall performed...

I can relate. I LOVED my XJ. Loved everything about it. No one that rode in it liked it. My wife didn't like it...at first (it grew on her, though). When you find a vehicle that suits you, you just know. I had mine for 12 years.

Cool Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

Honestly the truth is the grand cherokee has always lead its class as far as having the best offroad capability while offering luxuries. the WJ was better than any Nissan or Toyota or Ford of its era and the WK was far better than the pathfinder, xterra and 4runner that it was meant to compete with during that time. The wk2 competes now competes with the landrover and mercedes and bmw segment which is smart. I think jeep realized that by going after this high end segment the lower end laredo version would still be superior to the 4runner pathfinder and explorer so now they cover alot more of the market. My wk interior is still far better than anything the 4runner has put out during its time and now look at a wk2 compared to a 4runner. no question. with that said i think you can see that its pretty illogical to compare the grand cherokees to each other as each new model was designed with different goals and market shares in mind. no reason to compare and wj to a wk or a wk to a wk2.

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

The only reason to compare the WK2 to the previous generations of the GC is to illustrate how far the vehicle has come.

As for quality, I would disagree that the interior quality of a WJ has been better than that of say a 4Runner. The Pathfinder has really lost its way, but in the late 90s, early 2000s the Pathfinder/Infiniti QX4 were very nice, and the 4Runner was a very nice, high quality vehicle. When you go back as far as the ZJ its a little different, because at that time the ZJ and the Explorer were really the only midsized SUVs that could be made to be luxurious, the Pathfinder was not and the 4Runner was not to the same level until the mid 90s.

I was a buyer/owner in that segment back when the WJ was new, the vehicle was good looking, and good offroad, but interior quality, solidity, and onroad handling were bottom of the class. For a driver driving as most do...on the road...the Explorer, 4Runner, Pathfinder...all better vehicles IMHO.

I think on the inside the WK was an upgrade from the WJ, I've never driven one but I've ridden in it, the ride is better, interior is way better.

To come from a vehicle widely ridiculed for interior quality to become a recipient of awards for best interior, and to be seen as an equal of Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, etc interiors is a pretty incredible feat, thats my point by comparing them.

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

I always liked the WJ, at that time Chrysler's interiors were cheap, but they were attractive. The hard plastics were grained to look like a nice vinyl, their leather was decently soft, and the ergonomics were pretty good. With the WK, Chrysler decided to just give up and make their cheap plastics LOOK like cheap plastics. It got a little better towards the end of the WK, But if you look at an '03 vs an '05, the WJ appears a lot nicer inside.

I was always a fan of the QX4. It was a little ahead of its time, the 3 spoke wheels were dumb, and truthfully it was a little small for its day, but it was a great vehicle overall. It's one of those few vehicles that being 10+ years old still looks pretty current, because they didn't go for anything insane looking. A black QX4 that's in good shape with some new wheels is still a sharp looking vehicle, and truthfully is still pretty damn well equipped.

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

I had a 4runner. The 4runner had just as much hard plastic and stupid big oversized a/c controls. the wk 2008+ with leather appearance package actually has the best "LOOKING" interior of any grand cherokee its just that they used hard plastic in most spots which seems to bug a majority of people. to me i think its part of its rugged character and is fine with me. It seems like alot of the late 2000's japanese and american cars made use of plastic instead of padded plastic or vinyl which actually has alot of advantage just most people think its a sign of quality but if most people knew what there "padded dash was they would realize it is just plastic too but with a padded urethane layer. Unless you get the leather dash like the overland. now thats quality!!!!

Re: Swap 2011 Laredo E for 2008 Diesel Overland? Whhaat?

I too really liked the QX4. I almost bought one in 2003 instead of my 03 Lexus ES, but I wanted a sedan after having had the Explorer.

I have a feeling if I had bought that QX4 I'd still have it, in some capacity or another.

I'm not talking about the 03-09 4Runner, I'm talking about the 90s-02 4Runner, most notably the ones built between 99-02.

Toyota interiors have freefallen to the point where I think today, Toyota makes some of the cheapest. crappiest interiors in the industry. Back in that time though, everything was high quality, well built, solid, rattle free.
