LOL, Moose. You know, the Aztek could have been a success had the old farts (the great Bob Lutz is an exception) running GM listened to their young design engineers. Here is what COULD have been and it actually looks decent:

Ugh bringing back bad memories... this was my company car at my old job.
At least it didn't have that terrible plastic molding on half of the car.

Re: Take a look at our Mercedes cousin!

All I can say is WOW! I'm so gladd I did not wait for this one!
That hard hipline and the interior look completely BMWish!

Every day I'm more convinced how much I love my jeep!

Looking at some of the pictures I wonder what features the north American market will never see, like this one...Which we already have

Re: Take a look at our Mercedes cousin!

The look is fine the more I look at it especially the interior and if the diesel engine and transmission turns out as good as they seem to be, I would seriously look at trading the WK2.

The WK2 will always be of better value and I do love Jeeps (on my 4th GC) but I've alway wanted a clean diesel SUV and one day I will have one.

Re: Take a look at our Mercedes cousin!

well as we have established, beauty in the eyes of beholder, we are a jeep borad... so we chose jeep. I LIKE THE WAY WK2 LOOKS. but i would be VERY HAPPY to have interior out of MB!. and as far as Proctologist's car ( ASSTECHnician....) I think even if the car would have a hot rodded turbo v6, hell LSx engine I would be hard pressed to pass those UGLY( to me) body lines...
MB is ok, but I prefear the Jeep's stands....

Re: Take a look at our Mercedes cousin!

Just for grins I used their configurator to spec out a ML like my V6 Overland, and came up at about $64k.

So, it has a 7 speed vs a 5, 2 fewer points on it's star, a better dealer experience, and $20k more?? That better be one HELL of an experience. I'm talking strippers, flying monkeys, etc.

I'm wondering how the quality control might be. It's pretty evident that despite Jeep's own assurances, the QC of the WK2 was really quite cursory.

But then, $20K can buy a tremendous amount of inspections.

The Overland is equipped astonishingly well for its price, and that is beyond any doubt. It offers things most makers don't even consider offering for any less than another $10000, often more than that. Certainly you're paying a bit more for the luxury nameplate, but I wonder where the rest of the money went; I doubt it's because the janitors at the plant were paid that much more. Some things like the engines might drive the cost up a bit (the Pentastar and Hemi have scale of production in their favor). Same for the interior pieces- that quilted leather looks nice, but it's definitely more expensive. Add a bunch of little things together, and you may well have a good chunk of that difference.

OMG! What kind of clubs do you go to?? I need to get out more.

Techosavant, in regards to quality, Mercedes had some seriously spotty problems years past but the last two cars we had (E and S) were excellent from a reliability standpoint. I cannot say the same for the BMWs we owned although I have friends who buy/lease them regularly and they have a notorious streak of gremlins, FWIW. Our Audis have been boringly and surprisingly perfect. Mercedes don't cost what they do purely because of extra inspections; they have a very expensive labor force, smaller volumes than other marques and very high taxes. So the profit margins are not what one may think although to price them where they have to be, they must market to the high end buyer which requires a better "experience"...outside of monkeys and strippers.

List of suv's/crossovers in order, that I would take over the MB.
1-range rover
2-Porsche cayenne
3-BMW x5
4-Lexus gx
5-my overland

I just don't love that Benz design. Kinda looks like a half van half suv. I'm not feeling it.
