Called my local dealer to let him know that I had found my prize elsewhere. He took it well and w/o prompting said that he would begin processing my full deposit refund right away. He asked me where I had found it and I think it took some of the sting out of things when I told him I had gone up into PA. He was very gracious, congratulated me on the get, etc.
I let him know that I had been so impressed with him that I would be switching to his dealership for my service needs. This doesn't benefit him directly, but I will also be letting his boss know so maybe he'll feel the love down the road.
Turns out that my wheel blemish issue can't be handled directly by my selling dealer. Since it's going to be serviced by my local dealer, they are the ones who need to submit a claim.
I learned that my original order had just scored a VIN. He told me that he expected delivery by the end of January at the latest. I was incredulous of course, but he said it was a legit timeline given their volume and contacts with the factory as well as the production times for the units that they were steadily receiving. Just passing this along FWIW in case there is anyone who would like to piggyback on this order (it's identical to the unit I bought except for the lack of tech package).
