Re: *TERRIBLE* Dealer Service Department!

These fender flares are held on by clips closest to the tire, and it's nothing more than double sided tape on the outer perimeter. This is why they eventually separate. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure these don't come painted, someone correct me if I'm wrong. So I can only imagine the dealer or body shop had to have painted it and maybe just lied to you about it coming factory painted.
These are not easy parts to remove and install and I see time after time on these forums where guys get them back in worse shape than original. When I had my 2014, mine was separating slightly, but only because I removed front bumper and caused it myself. I used my own adhesive to reattach it knowing the dealer would just make it worse. My method worked fine.
Hope they get it all corrected for you.

All depends on how good the collision place is. I had a friend go to my guy with a 10 year old off gold Honda after a front end accident to have the front of the car painted and they matched up 100%. I honestly couldn't believe they were able to match the remaining faded paint. I told him to just repaint the entire car that it would never look right but these guys proved me wrong.

Re: *TERRIBLE* Dealer Service Department!

This wont help you for your current situation with the paint but that two sided tape continues to disintegrate over the years so you will likely be dealing with it again. Its not something you should have to do yourself but sometimes its less of a headache then dealing with the mess dealers often create. These are what I used, 20 bucks, 5 minutes and done. You don't need very much adhesive just a little will do the job.

It's poorly desiged. Taping a vehicle together, ridiculous. Feel bad for what you're dealing with Dan, hope the best in getting it sorted out and fixed to brand new standards.

Re: *TERRIBLE* Dealer Service Department!

The problem that I feel is evident is that the body shop that did the paint work didn't actually take the time to "match" the color to the vehicle in current form. They can't just go by the code. That's a starting point, not the ending point. All vehicles "change color" over time and there are always slight variations in paint, even straight from the factory. Nature of the beast.

That said, this dealer service department clearly "doesn't get it". You might want to contact Jeep Cares here in the forum to see if they can help you get a positive resolution.

I feel that the problem is with the dealership feeling the need to replace the flare (with the inherent risk of not matching the paint) instead of simply removing it and replacing the tape. Not sure why they're being directed to do that.

Re: *TERRIBLE* Dealer Service Department!

All 4 of mine needed to be retaped under warranty but there was never any mention of REPLACING them. I also had to have the front CV shafts replaced TWICE under warranty for the same reasons you stated. What a waste of time and resources.....!

Re: *TERRIBLE* Dealer Service Department!

Ahh.. your post sure brought my memories with Jeep Metro dealership which it has changed to Grieco... I had many bad issues with their services and anal service manager (Dana). It was no fun to deal and today, I still don't understand how he still working there with asshole attitudes... Jeep decided to relocate me into other jeep dealership and better relationship.

Anyway, I definitely understand how u feel about your recent service...

Re: *TERRIBLE* Dealer Service Department!

We just had our driver side flare repaired under warranty a week ago (2014 Jeep GC Summit Eco Diesel). It had been peeling off since it was new and the purchasing dealer chose not to repair it. We took it to the dealer in Iowa where we live and a service advisor noticed it right away when I was in for a separate warranty claim. The dealer promptly made me an appointment with the best body shop in our area who I have done business with in the past (awesome work!!!). The body shop had me drive over to access the problem and they told me they had repaired several of these fender flares on the Jeep GC SRT's. The shop agreed with me and said it was a very cheap way for a vehicle that is this expensive to be produced. On the day of my appointment the dealer took the Jeep to the body shop who removed the flare, cleaned the area very well and used a higher grade 3M tape to reinstall the flare. We got it back same day and it looks great, a much tighter fit then factory. Our passenger flare looks like it will be coming off soon so I will have the same done with it. The dealer did tell me that a new flare would come unpainted when I asked.

Re: *TERRIBLE* Dealer Service Department!

BTW - It was NOT blue protective film, I did check just in case. LOL

If they color mix these things, then that is the problem. They need to get a can of it premixed from the factory. I'll bet that those little paint touch up things match 100% to my GC.

I had no idea they were going to order a new trim piece and have to paint it locally until the service advisor told me they were waiting for the body shop to paint it. Had I known, I would have gotten some glue and done it myself --- stick some glue in there, tape it flush, let dry, remove tape and done. As it stands now, the color is so off it looks ridiculous.

Re: *TERRIBLE* Dealer Service Department!

Bad, bad bad. Good luck with the resolution. BTW the little tube of MOPAR bright white does match the color of my bumper and wheel well trim EXACTLY.

Jim is right. White is not white, in fact it is one of the harder colors to butt match. I've seen up to sixteen variances for the same paint code. He will need the body to match the flare and will probably have to tint the color even after getting the closest color variance from the computer.
That's why most panels are blended onto adjacent panels to fool any slight color difference. It is an art form.
