That might be a technique Chrysler should implement. The GC has been the most difficult vehicle to purchase for me, the dealers are such a pita.

If it forces other manufacturers to update the way they do business, then it can only be positive. I'm glad he is challenging the current paradigm. I wish the industry also migrated to a no-haggle pricing system.

But back to those rear doors, I still stand by my comment earlier: They are useless in winter.

Re: Tesla Model X SUV --- tempting?

I think the Tesla X SUV is ugly and with only AWD and battery powered, useless in any real world off road trips or winter conditions... I'll pass

Not a bad idea for tesla and their range on their models is increasing. Everyone likes something different.

Re: Tesla Model X SUV --- tempting?

not on my list.. doesn't meet any of my needs (in particular, range)

Those rear doors are gonna be a real adventure.. I could see a rain gutter in the center to deal with the rain issue, but...

they are gonna make a nice compressed wall of snow in the winter, unless you brush the snow off first (which, if you keep your snow brush in the back seat, becomes a catch-22)

they are going to be great fun in city parking garages with low clearance..

I suppose they will be fine in Mountain View or Newport Beach, though..

Re: Tesla Model X SUV --- tempting?

It's a different type of suv and I'm certain they're considering everything you just said and more.

Re: Tesla Model X SUV --- tempting?

Electric vehicles are the future, no doubt in my mind. The maintenance costs are way lower too. 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and little sound and no point emissions. To make sales really go off, they need to sell the vehicle sans battery pack and simply make the battery pack swappable in a minute and you pay a % of battery life usage with each swap. Would still be way cheaper per mile than gas and would price an electric vehicle probably less than the gas vehicle equivalent.

Reminds me of Steve Ballmer mocking the iPhone in 2007...

Re: Tesla Model X SUV --- tempting?

My biggest question is why do people say no emissions? It takes a ton of power to charge these things. Doesn't that produce pollution somewhere?....

Actually that's not really all that accurate. Elon has mentioned that very few Tesla customers are actually interested in the battery swap program. They already have this working (swap batteries in a minute or two), but have put all that on the backburner for now due to lack of demand / interest. The issue with the tesla is not so much the time-to-charge, it's the uncertainty of knowing whether you'll make it to your destination, and if you can charge it when you get there; battery swap doesn't change that, it just changes the speed at which you can get on your way, but that range anxiety is still very much there.

I don't think pure electric is the way to go, right now. The volt has the right idea; electric for the most part, but just top it up with gas to get you as far as you need to go. The volt can be your primary, and only car, whereas tesla is only a car for those with money (2+ vehicles) or for those who will never take it on camping trips etc etc. In 20 years if the infrastructure has changed to have power charging at every gas station, well then an electric only might be more viable. Too bad the volt looks hideous.
