The 6.1 and 6.4s don't have MDS. Sorry to bust your ECO.

I know the 6.1 doesn't have MDS () but I thought the 6.4 was coming with cylinder deactivation..

Yep, the 6.4l is going to have the mds system. Mds is a joke anyway. The dodge challanger with the manual transmission does not have the mds, gas mileage only dropped by one mpg over the auto transmission.

Anyone notice the little "i" that sometimes appears next to the "ECO"? Anyone know what that means?

ECO and HEMI in the same sentence. You all should be ashamed.

Not a fan either. MDS on a V8 or V6 GC regardless is silly. It also doesn't play nice with my Borla cat back. So off it went.

I like MDS. I think that it's a bearable compromise between power first and fuel economy second. You get HEMI power, but also get sane fuel economy on the highway. I haven't even noticed it in operation.

Personally, I'd prefer the compromise the other way around, with fuel economy first and power second, like you get with a good induction system (i.e., a quick spooling turbo or a supercharger). BMW and Audi have the right idea when it comes to engines.

Re: The "ECO" light makes me feel so good about myself

If its fuel economy you want, buy a smart car. Which by the way, is less efficient per unit (engine displacement and weight) than the Hemi. Otherwise, grow a pair and buy the Hemi. There is no such thing as a powerful and capable SUV with good fuel economy. The two are mutually exclusive. Power and capability equals a big engine with a transmission that can take stress, and a solid heavy duty frame that doesn't twist when pushed to the limit. Fuel economy equals some girly 4 cylinder engine with a chinsy 8+ speed transmission on a lightweight frame and plastic everywhere it doesn't belong. MDS is a joke. A stunt if you will, just so the tree hugging eco terrorists will shut up.

That said, I'm glad it helps you sleep at night. I hope you buy your tampons in bulk.

This is one of the more ignorant things I've heard in a while. You might want to talk to a professional about your personal inadequacies if watching your "V8" drink gas is what keeps you from feeling "girly". They make a pill for that now you know, might make it easier to cope. Just a friendly suggestion <--- at you.

Me? I don't see anything wrong with wanting more fuel economy alongside robust performance. Unless you've noticed...thats been happening. LOTS of cars out there today with balls that return much better economy than their predecessors...including the Jeep...basically every vehicle on the road. Thats only going to increase as each year goes by too.

I'm happy with my dick...so I'm happy to save money at the pump and help out the chipmunks when I can too. I guess it'll cost me less hauling my "tampons" from Costco.

<---still at you.

Jeeze louise.

There are enough tampons to go around for the both of you.

There is a lot more crap to contribute to our environment than big ol' v8 engines.

Plus, I like the fact that more and more people want smaller engines. Just makes me feel like there's more V8 to go around for the Hemi lovers. If you want a v6, then get one, if you want a v8 then get one. HEMI Powered jeeps are the last thing to worry about when looking at the envrionment.

Plus, isn't global warming just some story from a fairy tale to help ex politicians generate money from documentaries?

Re: The "ECO" light makes me feel so good about myself

My apologies. I was not in the best of moods yesterday and my comments were more inflammatory than was necessary.

The point I was intending to make is this; Robust performance and fuel economy are almost mutually exclusive. It irritates me when people berate engineers for not designing a 600hp V8 that gets 40mpg. Its not their fault, its never going to happen when you're burning 87 or 89. More power means more fuel. More weight means more power required. Its pretty simple. I bought the Jeep because I need the power. Its hard to haul sensitive equipment in the bed of a truck, so I had to go with an SUV that could still tow like a truck. The JGC was the best choice, and looks good too.

I'm happy to save money at the pump too, but I would rather stop paying $3.50 per gallon. And I would say that an SUV that comes close to 6000 pounds loaded with a V8 that puts out almost 400hp and still gets around 16mpg the way I drive, is pretty darn efficient.

If the V6 JGC cuts it for you, then you probably bought it for looks more than function. Which I understand, its a fine looking vehicle. But please don't come here and tell me I'm destroying the environment with my V8, because (as much as it pains me to admit this) if a small hybrid car could do everything I needed it to do, and get 40+ mpg at the same time I would drive that instead. I would love to go 800 miles on one tank of gas and then only pay 25 dollars to fill it back up again. I would own both and only use the Jeep when I needed it if I didn't work 60+ hours a week.

Anyway, I will try to keep my comments to a less offensive standard in the future.
