The end of V8 Hemi in 2019?

I've read multiple articles stating the HEMI V8 is going to be replaced with Twin Turbocharged V6 Pentastar engines.

What do you know about this?

Re: The end of V8 Hemi in 2019?

Engine choices are not fully fleshed out this early, but it's likely that there will be no V8 with the new platform. We have a "WL" section here in the forums that will be focused on that new platform for MY19, although there's obviously not a lot of activity this early. There are a few very early things posted at wk2jeeps.com, too...scroll down once that link loads.

Do not expect many details on MY19 for quite some time, however...

Re: The end of V8 Hemi in 2019?

Honestly, unless you tow really big stuff, the V6 is becoming a much better replacement for the V8 with every generational improvement. I opted to go with the V6 after having a V8 in my last truck.

I don't regret it one bit. The V6 is quite the power house. It's not your daddy's V6.

The only thing I wish is if it was offered with a hybrid option - preferably a plug-in hybrid. As someone who does a lot of stop and go driving, I would love to purr from light to light under electric power, but have gas for the grunt and the range.

I have no interest in the Stop/Start feature as that's the most idiotic implementation ever.

I disagree, the V6 is way too weak for me, for me it wasn't even a choice!

Agreed, to be honest I wasn't even interested in the 5.7 personally. No offense I'm sure it's great. But why not go all out.
I had a twin turbo V6 experience with my F-150, and I have no desire to experience that again. I am going to be buying or keeping a V8 as long as I can

Re: The end of V8 Hemi in 2019?

Those of us who "grew up" in a V8 inspired world will miss them more than the growing majority of drivers who grew up in a different environment. Like so many things, this is pretty subjective relative to "want/need" and the population of "V8 enthusiasts" is certainly larger in an online forum like this as compared to the overall marketplace. The latter is what Jeep cares about more in the long haul.

Then again, my JGC is only the second vehicle I've owned that's equipped with a V8 (the first was a 2000 Tundra and "that" engine wasn't very impressive anyway at the time). Honestly, the next time around, I'll be perfectly satisfied with a non-V8 engine in my ride. The Hemi is nice and it's performed just fine, but other than the two or three times a year that I haul our horses, I don't "need" the Hemi to support my primarily high-mileage business travel needs. Cruising at 65-70 mph on the ACC doesn't demand much of the engine.

I wanted the SRT but my wife didn't understand why spend more money on a car that "looks" the same to her and asked to get the V6, I told I rather take the bus then getting the V6, lol, so we agreed on the 5.7 Hemi

That's a good compromise. My girlfriend couldn't care less about the 6.4, but thought the SRT was sexier than all the other Jeeps. That sold her, well that and the fact that I wanted the SRT so bad... she gives in to pretty much whatever I want, lucky me

It is funny how if you look at the Japanese cars etc. it it has a 300+HP V 6 people think high performance. But if it a US brand and has a V6 it is mediocre. US brands have a hard time selling the V6 as any kind of performance engine. I think Ford is trying to break that with the Eco boost label. I tow a 6000lb boat and trailer so I want the V8 or the diesel for the torque. I know someday a v6 will have it.

American v6s have been mediocre in the past. Foreign automakers could always seem to squeeze out a ton of power per liter in the smaller motors.
I mean even 470 horsepower out of a 6.4 liter V8 seems kind of weak in my opinion.
I hated my EcoBoost, it seems good on power but it had a lot of issues and they are popping all over the place. Mine had issues, I traded before it blew. They redesigned a lot of the 3.5 liter EcoBoost for 2017, to take care of these issues.

Also I think the people that are interested in the high horsepower V6 foreign cars aren't the same group or type of people that are used to American V8 muscle and the saying there ain't no replacement for displacement.
So the people that look down on the American V6 wouldn't be looking at a foreign V6 and be impressed

Re: The end of V8 Hemi in 2019?

I miss the 440 I had in my 69 Charger and the 454 I had in my 77 K5 Blazer. But I've been perfectly happy with the 3.6L in my GC.

You are either fibbing, or getting old.

I may be getting quilted seats, but I'll still have my HEMI!
