The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

I have recently spent some time on the trouble shooting thread... 'the bad and the ugly'. Would really like to hear the Good now. I've read all the pro's reviews, but they all basically say the same thing. I was wondering if new owners could give their own short review or positive impressions, of their new rides?

I haven't received mine yet, but can say that I think it is one of the nicest looking vehicle I've seen in a while... maybe ever! Also, they are supplied with an incredible amount of features.

Thanks!

Mike

I get your point. It is only natural that members post here about their problems (I've done it myself ), but that does not give the most balanced view of the Jeep.

It's an amazing vehicle and a joy to use everyday. Looks great, rides smooth but firm, sooo quiet... and Jeep capable. I just love it!

Re: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

So far, after 2 months and now 1800 miles I can report that everything works as advertised. There have been some "smoothness issues" as the trans runs in but it seems to be sorting itself out fine. Nothing like the infamous shudder, just some shifts and torque converter lockups that could have been smoother but as I get more miles on it they have smoothed out.

I just finished the first 750 mile run on our vacation towing a 5000 lb 7x16x6 V-Nose toy hauler up through FL, GA, TN and KY with some strong pulls uphill and some good engine braked downhills and it's running splendidly. Aside from the short wheelbase making it a handful above 75 mph with crosswinds it pulled the load with no issues. Trans temp did get up to 180 on the 5 mile uphill pull out of Chattahoochee but that's where it stopped and was back down in the 160's once we leveled out. Water temp stayed at 208 and oil peaked at 242 (glad I put the 100% synthetic in) and pressure stayed at 50 regardless of temp.

QL with an assist from a Reese SC weight distributing hitch worked flawlessly and actually when it lowers to aero height stability improves (yea!).

So, here's something other than the complaints and normal "I love this Jeep" posts

Re: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

I have had mine for nearly 5 months and I have already racked up 7500 miles. Nearly all highway, but plenty of backwoods and snow duty. I have loved nearly every minute of it! All of the features are awesome, as the overland is loaded. I use the terrain select wheel all the time for different scenarios and I have found them all terrific.

The ride is super smooth, and while the gas mileage is blah, its not terrible at highway speeds and loves the long rides (I do I-95 from Delaware to CT every other weekend)
Its also the little things, like three blinks from the signals when you just tap the turn signal stalk to not have to click and unclick the stalk. The rear reclining seats are sweet.

Hope your wait isnt too long!

I'll also be towing a V-nose with toys, but only ~3,000 lbs max. So, really good to read your post!!! Thanks.

Overland Ryan also love that turn indicator function. I tested an Infinity, last Fall and was surprised that it didn't have this function. I'll bet your gas mileage is a bit better than your second ride! Thanks, should have it by mid May!

Day 40 and 2240 miles here with my 2011 WK2 Overland Summit Edition, Pentastar V6, mineral gray, saddle/black interior... Other than the rear flipper glass (which had to be replaced), minor compatibility issues with my iphone and 1 TSB for early upshift issues, I am extremely happy with my purchase. It is running great now...

I just finished my first road trip from PA to NH (836 miles roundtrip). I started the trip with roughly 1200 miles. The drive up to NH was on Friday. It was rainy and cold the whole ride up. I drove normally with no abrupt throttle inputs and little passing averaging 70mph. I was able to get 19.1 MPG on the trip up (95% highway/ 5%city). On the trip back home today(mostly sunny and temp in the 80's), I drove very light-footed, coasted down the hills at 80 and climbed the hills at 65. I averaged 22.4 MPG. I'm hoping to get a little more once I have a few more thousand miles on it. All in all the drive was quiet and pleasurable. Love the Serius radio, travel link, and traffic update overlays on the GPS map. Other than the big gas tank that I had to fill 2 1/2 times at 80+ bucks a pop, I loved my GC on this road trip... A really nice drive, rain and all...

Re: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

I am on day 11 & 750 miles. I am crazy about it! It is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned & I don't ever remember enjoying a new vehicle as much. I got a RB V6 Summit 4x4 with new 730. I installed chrome sidesteps and Jeep illuminated door seals last weekend.

The ride is great, the interior amazing, & the technology blows me away. I have so many favorite features that I can't list them all here but the top 5 are as follows:

5. Automatic high beams
4. Adaptive cruise control
3. Cool seats
2. Blind spot monitoring system
1. Keyless entry

The keyless entry was a feature that I didn't fully appreciate until I started using it. It is my favorite feature.

Anyhow, I could go on for hours telling how great this vehicle is. I am extremely pleased with the purchase (not so much with the wait, the clueless dealers, & Jeep's corporate incompetence).

But make no mistake Mike, this is one fine vehicle. You will love it.

Joe

Re: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

No problems to report (knocks on wood trim). Smooth, quiet, powerfull and I like the looks and fit/finish. Excellent highway cruiser that can get through the remote trails to reach our wilderness vacation destinations. Gas mileage is about the same or better with the Hemi than what I got in an S-Mercedes and better than my neighbor's Q7 and a cousin's Highlander; it's about the same economy as another neighbor's minivan when it's all said and done....a non-issue in other words.

OP, while we normally would help find you links from prior posts, in this case there are just too many. Try a search for "reviews" or check "polls" within this wk2 subforum for lots of great firsthand experience fom JG members. Also check out the commercial reviews in the wk2 stickey section. Awesome vehicle.

Re: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

I've had an Overland for five days now.

The literature and reviews tell you about many of this vehicle's delights (like the heated steering wheel: aaahhh...)

The one that surprised me: the windshield wipers are absolutely silent. No motor noise, no rubber-on-glass screech. Here in western Oregon, we run the wipers for half the year. Silent wipers are FABULOUS.

Thanks Moosehead. I did try the advanced search function, but you get a lot of irrelevant reviews. This was much quicker.

Thanks for the insights from the others! They were great. Although, it will only serve to make my wait seem even longer. Getting a little anxious. Congrats to all the new 2011 JGC owners!
