Much lighter is a relative term. The empty shuttle is only 60 tons lighter than an empty Antonov An-225, which is the heaviest aircraft ever built to date.
The shuttle, though smaller, has a ceramic tile skin which adds tons (pun intended) of weight. Just think about how heavy a box of 13 ceramic tiles is at your local Home Depot. Now multiply that weight by a surface area roughly half the size of a 747.
That's some serious bulk.
Of course, if you add the fuel tank (empty) and the boosters, which would be required to make it able to actually take off (and more comparable to the An-225), it ends up outweighing the An-225 by roughly 100 tons. Without those items, it would be like removing the engines and fuel tanks from the An-225.
Fill both aircraft with their maximum fuel and payloads and the shuttle will outweigh the An-225 by over 1000 tons.
At close inspection the 747 Jumbo is very attached to the ground. I had just finished a photo shoot with the Jumbo film prop and took the shot just for a laugh.
This was with my 2014 Limited Diesel, Now I have a High Altitude 5.7 Hemi. They do the towing differently, It was amazing how that 6 cyl diesel got the job done. Of course the hemi does it just fine, just a more RPMs. Love the HA model.

It towed pretty well over a 750 mile trip. I averaged 16mpg while towing. I wish I had a little more power while entering the freeway, or while passing someone, but my v6 did fine. I'm glad I have a factory tow package, it made hooking everything up (including brake controller) super easy.
I think the engine of the car on the trailer makes up for the engine of the car towing it lol. Always wanted one & one day it will happen. Why did I have to be sensible & buy a house
A RWD F150 that got stuck on an icy side road earlier tonight. When are people going to learn that just because you're driving a truck it doesn't mean you can brave the winter weather!
nothing crazy... small 20" snow blower i got for my mother in law.
I've used this hitch rack multiple times for all types of stuff (camping, depot runs, etc..) It's extremely handy to have. I added the LED tail lights and retractable straps.
