Thinking bout coming back to Jeep...Need Input

Hey Everyone,

So here is the background...

I purchased a 2014 Grand Cherokee Laredo back in October of 2013 (i think). I loved the car and still to this day miss it.

I had many issues with the car (christmas tree cluster issue, Car randomly turning off, etc) Constantly in and out of service. About 4-6 months later Jeep brought the car back from me. No easy fight!

I later went back to the sports car game and got a Lexus IS sorry guys

Again Love the IS but miss the size of the Jeep.

Now I am looking at the 2015 Altitude model...

Everyone is telling me i am crazy after everything i have been thru with the last jeep.

Now I am seeing articles about the 200,000 Jeeps recalled because of Airbag issues.

How have they been holding up? I do not want another Jeep that is going to put me thru the ringer... Am I stupid for wanting to come back? Have anyone been seeing issues with their 2015s?

I think you guys are seeing where I am going with this.

Any input or help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

That recall is for Cherokees only, not grands.

Re: Thinking bout coming back to Jeep...Need Input

I got my '14 Overland in March of '13 and traded it for a '15 Ford Escape Titanium in October of '14. My intention is to wait until the '16s are out and getting a Summit. That is if they don't come up with a bunch of new technology for '16.

The funny thing is, while overall I liked the Jeep a lot, the more I drove it the more the little things annoyed me. The more I drive the Escape, the more I like. But, it's not a Jeep.

So, as long as they take care of the little things (they already took care of the ECO default) I still intend to make the crazy move back to Jeep.

I had a earlie build 2014 GC Overland that ultimately was a buy back from Chrysler due to many issues. Got a late build 2014 Overland and haven't had any major issues other than recalls and a tv screen working intermintinly.

Recalls are a good thing...they are proactive acknowledgements of an issue and a plan to rectify. In the past, you might not even had known about a defect until it was too late.

The early kinks in MY14 vehicles pretty much are worked out and MY15, in production since last June, has been pretty clean. Any individual vehicle from any manufacturer can have issues; you just got unlucky with your original purchase.

Re: Thinking bout coming back to Jeep...Need Input

Not to bash but if i were you i wouldn't get a V6JGC. Search on this forum, most of the issue threads are related to the pentastar. There are some here who never had issues with their V6 as well. I'm sure they would chime in.

The diesel and hemi are great options as well as the SRT. Just my opinion and what i've seen on this thread. There are much less threads about a hemi with the issues you mentioned. By no means i'm i saying the hemi has no issues but nothing major such as mechanical issues.

Now if i really wanted a V6 i would maybe aim for a Trailhawk. But again may or may not have issues. Part of the economy and is what makes the world go round.

Statement: Restraint-System Software Upgrade
February 2, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is launching a global recall of an estimated 228,181 SUVs to upgrade software governing side-curtain and seat-mounted side air bags.

The action follows an investigation by FCA US engineers after a small number of inadvertent deployments involving drivers who executed extreme maneuvers. These maneuvers dramatically changed the vehicles’ angle of operation, relative to the ground.

The air-bag systems, sensing potential rollovers, automatically activated. FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.

The software upgrade will recalibrate the threshold for deployment and the vehicles will remain compliant with all applicable safety regulations.

Affected are certain 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees. Estimated volumes by market are as follows: 168,092 in the U.S.; 19,557 in Canada; 4,133 in Mexico and 36,399 outside the NAFTA region.

The Company will notify affected customers. Software will be available at that time.

Customers with additional concerns or questions may call 1-800-853-1403.

I have had a 2011 Overland and now have a 2014 Overland. Will also be ordering either a 2016/2017 at some point, so I'm partial to the GC. I had issues with my 11, but so far so good on the 14. I had the funky shifting on my 3.6, but the latest software update from the dealer fixed that. I had been tempted to stray and looked at an Explorer Sport, and even considered a new Tahoe, but I simply can't find a vehicle that touches my GC for what you get for your money. The Explorer stickered well over my Overland, and I had hard plastic surrounding me wherever I turned. You get back into the Jeep and are surrounded by leather and easy to navigate controls. I had a lot more issues with the two H3's I owned then I have my Jeeps, so I'll most likely be Jeep 4 Life.

Just my $.02

Re: Thinking bout coming back to Jeep...Need Input

No big, courtesy does matter and often get pushed aside in online interactions.

Actually, my real point is that recalls and tsb's, IMHO, are a good thing. It is recognition of a concern and a path to the fix. All good. Not gonna argue if the JGC has more than it should. IMHO, a late build 14 or any 15 would not compare to an early build 14. Get the vehicle you NEED and structure your ownership around that. Meaning, if there is any intent on keeping beyond 3/36 get an extended service contract to cover your entire ownership period. If that cost makes the deal too much then that's telling you something as well. I personally would not own any vehicle of any make (unless it was stripped with crank windows) without warranty/service contract coverage during my entire ownership period. Not these days.

Also, even though the tranny problems are in the minority of the hundreds of thousands of MY14 rigs on the road I personally would not get the V6 simply because its fot the 845re tranny that chrysler manufactured "under license". It's not the made by chrysler it's the "modified" by chrysler that makes me uncomfortable. The 8HP70 on the V8 and diesel is not mechanically altered in any way by chrysler. Again, most don't have problems with the V6 tranny combo. Plus I am a forever V8 guy who will buy them as long as they are made.
