( seemed better before the dealer "updated" it this last winter). The HVAC system, I've never liked on "manual" control. The radio is just fine. Quadra-lift works great ....I didn't order it. I know when the 3year/36,000 mile mark comes close I will seriously consider a trade-in. I don't want to find out how much a Evic panel, Flash updates, any trip to the dealer would cost. I suppose the days are gone of doing all the maintenance myself ( like my 01 Cherokee), but that's progress and all ( well, most) of the fine technology makes up for that.
I'll be buying/ adding a Subaru Legacy/ Outback in a couple of months and will certainly compare that experience to the '14 GC

Good luck folks,

Yep, there isn't much of us left from the early adopters.

I've never owned a vehicle where I didn't find a few nits to pick, but nothing with my Jeep has become a pressing issue, with the exception of the nav update cluster ***k I'm currently involved with. I can understand why some of the issues people are having can be really annoying to the point of wanting a separation, but I'm not having that problem. I can say that other vehicles I've owned have performed better in some areas, such as climate control or some infotainment glitches. But on the whole, my Jeep is a keeper for me. I just want to add that of all the virtual communities I've belonged to, the Garage is absolutely number 1 in my book.
Mine was built in May '13 and I also got rid of the Latitudes for the MS2 tires. The GPS isn't a big deal for me but when I need it and it tells me I'm in a lake somewhere, shutting the car down to start over doesn't always do it. The transmission was good in the beginning but started going down hill. Is it a killer, not really as long as these updates can eventually fix the clunky at times tranny.

I did just get back from the dealerships and looked at a '15 GMC Sierra SLT, boy was it nice and quiet. I wanted to really compare it to the jeep on what we get for our money. More plastic in the truck and about $9000 more than the Jeep. The windshield kind of made me sick and having to navigate a big hood would take some getting used to. It road like a truck so that is a big negative, which I kind of knew of before going into it. I then stopped at one of the other Jeep dealers to look at a '15 Limited or Overland (surprisingly no V8s on the lot). Talk about sticker shock! MSRP for an Overland V6 with some option was $49,500, even the Limited with LuxII package was roughly $45K. After talking with the wife, I'm going to take a "wait and see" approach on things. Spending that much more for the exact same vehicle 1yr new (model year) and not knowing if you end up with the same issues is very hard to swallow.

Re: Thinking of dropping my Jeep

My conversation with hubs in Dec 2012...

Hubs.... You sure you don't want to wait a month or 2 until the 14's hit the dealers to buy one?

Me.... Are you kidding? Those first one's off the line are going to be a nightmare with all that new stuff on them.

Hubs....Okay then, go find the 13 you want and we'll buy it.

2 years 5 mths later, exactly zero problems. Love my Jeep

Sorry some of you have had such a rough time with your 14's.

Re: Thinking of dropping my Jeep

I have a modicum of cognitive dissonance about the people who come in simply to shitpost in threads that were created to voice displeasure about a personal experience with a vehicle.

On one hand, I roll my eyes and think, "Well, I guess it's to be expected that a forum like this would be full of die-hard, kool aid drinking fanbois who personally identify with a vehicle brand for some immature reason."

On the other hand, I think, "Jesus, why do these fanbois care so much about whether or not someone else likes their vehicle such that they feel compelled to unleash vituperations about it?"

So, I guess this thread has recapitulated the trope. I think the trope is retarded, but I'm not surprised it exists. It's ubiquitous... I got a taste of it when I sincerely asked the 4runner forum I had been a member of for years why I should buy a T4R over a WK2 EcoDiesel. I think it might hearken back to some sort of atavistic tribal instinct.

...or maybe, in the final analysis, it's nothing more than knee-jerk shitposting.

As you know what cognitive dissonance is, you should also know that it largely explains the other two observations.

Re: Thinking of dropping my Jeep

Sorry to hear about all the issues with the early 14's.

Mine is an Oct 13 build. Drove off the lot last June and only issues I've had on my Truck are:

1) Door trim broke off from the top and was fixed under warranty.
2) vehicle phone pop message on the uconnect would come up once a day until i did the latest update 14.25.5 and never came back.

Going a bit off topic here, but this weekend headed to Laughlin NV and it performed well. Got 23.2 MPG on the way there. On the way back dropped to 20.6 mpgs as i was hitting 90mph while passing slower vehicles. By the time i was closer to home went up a notch to about 21.4. The Hemi has performed very well, better that my previous vehicle. I believe i'm somewhere around 14850 mi.

Transmission still isn't shifting like butter and the radio is really starting to act up (it was bad when I first got it with firmware 13.05). So my thoughts are possibly trading it in on a new GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab and get it out to basically what my jeep is now. Gas mileage is roughly the same and I don't want the navigation in the new vehicle (I already have a Garmin with lifetime updates). Has anyone else thought of getting rid of their 2014? I know quite a few have already.

I would hate to see you go, but understand with the issues you have described. I've only been at the dealer for recall work & the TIPM issue (before it was a recall) and none of this has required an overnight stay. There have been several instances where I've considered another vehicle but I really enjoy the ride, comfort convenience of my 2011 JGC. As we all know there is no such thing as a trouble free vehicle so weigh all of your options before you move on.
Best of luck to you.

Hey Sno, I remember when we were both anxiously awaiting delivery, way back when. Luck of the draw. Couldn't blame you if you bailed. Sorry it's not living up to your expectations. Good luck!

Re: Thinking of dropping my Jeep

I don't blame anyone for bailing on a vehicle with chronic problems... no one needs that stress and frustration or wonder if it's going to leave you stranded somewhere at the most inopportune time.

My GC is an Apr 2013 build, one of the early ones. I have just under 18K miles on it now. I've had it in for recalls on the alternator ground wire, brake booster shield, sun visor and sometime down the road I'll have it in for the ORC module.

I've had the quick relearn done on the trans which cured my shifting issues, 2-3 software flashes on various modules and my 8.4AN radio replaced.

Overall, more things than I'm used to having done on a vehicle. I've got a good dealer service department... they've taken care of everything that's come up with the above and so far I haven't had to revisit for the same problems.

I'd probably be pissed if I had bought the vehicle instead of leasing it, or if I had to deal with a service department like some of you describe. My lease is up next May so I'll be looking at turning it in for a new one. Of course, almost anything could happen with this one that would change my mind but I've been driving GC's for so long now that I just wouldn't feel comfortable with something else.

Service is absolutely the most important part of an ownership experience.

Re: Thinking of dropping my Jeep

Thanks Deb for cleaning up the crap it.. it wasn't warranted in this. Jacko - oh I remember, it was fun to see who would get the 10,000 post in the 2014 thread. As of right now I'm putting the hold on getting rid of the jeep, just nothing that really compares to it for the price. If the Hvac, nav, service radio can get fixed tomorrow then it is just the tray that needs to still have a little tweeking to be good.
