Thinking of getting a 2011 GC Laredo but have a question

So right now my current car is about to die on me. it sucks because i love the amount of space you could fit in the trunk (02 Outback Wagon).

so ive been browsing some dealership websites and found a 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo with roughly 99k miles. its for 16k so i was curious before i put that money down on that car, what issues might i have to deal with in the miles to come?

i ask this because around 100k-120k miles i know most cars need certain things done that can cost a lot. so from experience, what might i need to get done on the car or what kind of issues, if any, can i expect? or if the dealer does anything for it? never bought from a dealer so i am very new for this.

Re: Thinking of getting a 2011 GC Laredo but have a question

If you can see the service history of the vehicle, that would be great, but this is primarily a normal 'used car buying exercise' where things are what they are. MY11 was the first year for the current platform, so most folks will agree that you don't want one that was built in late 2010...a build date in 2011 is probably safer. The build date will be on the door sticker.

All I can say is yikes. I would avoid 2011. Especially with that many miles.

can you give me some details as to why?

i was thinking this or a 2013 patriot but the patriot is as bare as can be when it comes to what it has with it. me personally i need power windows which that patriot doesn't have. but if there are some big reasons you have against the 2011 then i guess i'll have to go with that. but yeah can you tell me why to avoid a 2011? like what are the big things you'd have against it?

ill check to see the date when i go look at it friday. anything else, other than service records (if it has them) that i should check for?

Thinking of getting a 2011 GC Laredo but have a question

Like stated above, if it's a late build 2011 it's probably a safer bet. But the 2011s were very problematic. It was a new platform and everything... And well, you probably know how Chrysler manages anything new; not very well at all. I waited until 2012 to buy mine and it was bought back by Chrysler because the panoramic sunroof wasn't cut out to spec so it would always leak.

I wouldn't even consider a Patriot unless an econobox is what you're looking for. And if it was, I'd recommend a Toyota first. The Grand Cherokee is far more refined and just a more comfortable capable vehicle all around.

Re: Thinking of getting a 2011 GC Laredo but have a question

I based my decision on Consumer Reports. They had 2011 as a bad year and 2013 as the best (fewest electrical issues). Generally, the first generation of any platform is the one to avoid unless it's something really, really cool like a Veyron

Now I plan on buying from a Chrysler dealer so shouldn't the majority of everything bad have been gone through and fixed? I know there was a recall for that model so shouldn't that have been fixed being at that dealer?

Phhhtttt.....
Consumer Reports isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

I've got a 2012 and besides the standard recalls and some TSBs, I've only had a window regulator go out and a water pump.

Absolutely no other issues.
I've got 35k miles and run A/T tires and yet I can still get 25mpg on the highway (V6 obviously).

Oh, and I've got the Laredo X which means I have more electronic stuff than the base Laredo.

I would question why a 2011 would have almost 100k miles already. 50k would seem more normal.

Thinking of getting a 2011 GC Laredo but have a question

^^My 2014 had 55k on it in just over a year. So I don't think the mileage is an issue on the 2011. Tends to be the case on SUVs, they are very easy to find with high mileage.

Not necessarily. There's a better chance they may have caught the recalls but there's quite a number of TSB's floating around that they won't touch until the owner complains of the symptoms covered by a specific TSB.

There's nothing cheap to repair on any vehicle. And since the vehicle is beyond the 3/36 warranty and about to be beyond the 7/100 powertrain warranty you could get stuck footing those repair bills.
