Re: Thinking of Selling my Overland

I would get rid of it before snow season is over for sure. Once summer rolls around SUV 4X4 sales drop off in the north.

I do not think you will get anyone to pay more than $35K private depending on the miles. I picked up my loaded overland back in August of last year new for $37,000 + TTL.

Re: Thinking of Selling my Overland

Values are disappointing at least here in Florida. I have a 2011 Overland 4x4 5.7 w 16k. Dealer offered me 31 trade after negotiation and let me walk out the door. Carmax offered 30. Based on those #s I expect they are looking to net 35/36

Re: Thinking of Selling my Overland

When I was about to purchase my 2012 recently, I found that used loredo's with 25k on the odometer were only $4k less then new. To me I would prefer new for that $$ difference.

Good luck with the sale.

I think I may drop by Carmax to see what their number is. I have 21,900 miles and it is the V6.

Thanks

Hey Indy,

If you don't sell the GC to Carmax, PM me your VIN we might be interested in buying it from you.

Re: Thinking of Selling my Overland

Couple of things are plying in here..right now it is a sellers market for quality used vehicles...ones that are a few years old and have taken a bit of a depreciation hit already, unlike your year-old GC.
The Grand Cherokee has ALWAYS suffered from very poor residuals. About 3 years ago, I helped a friend get a 2 year old, no stories, off-lease certified Laredo 4x4 with leather and a roof for less than half the $33k msrp that was in the glovebox. I think she paid $15,500 if I recall...
At the end of the day, it is a numbers game. The GC is a high volume production unit. What does not help us is the fact that many end up in fleet (rental) sales, further eroding the used values.
Classic economics- build one less than the market demands and pricing is supported. Build one more and search for the bottom..

Re: Thinking of Selling my Overland

That is what I miss the most about the Tacoma truck I sold to buy my GC. Paid $23,500 for it 8 years ago and let it go for a little over $13,000. I knew the GC would probabl not keep half its value after 8 years like my Toy but it sure didn't stop me from buying it.

Re: Thinking of Selling my Overland

The WK2 is a completely different vehicle than the WK and could hold it's value more.

I had a 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited with 4.7 L V8 engine.

MSRP: $37,795
Paid: $30,450 in March 2005 (bought new)
Drove it for 6 years and 7 months
October 2011 - Traded in for $14,250 (could have got $14,750 for trade if I had worked the dealers against each other more).
That's not so bad.

Re: Thinking of Selling my Overland

Like others have said the reason your not seeing those things sell is because people are asking wayyyy too much for used vehicles. For example, I have been looking around at some used WK2's, and its ridiculous what some people are asking for them. Im seeing private owners AND dealerships asking MORE for the used ones than what you can pick one up brand new for. Makes no sense. If im going to buy used it absolutely better be saving me thousands otherwise its going to be brand new.
There was a very nice mineral gray V6 2012 overland with adaptive cruise on ebay just recently, it had around 10,000 miles on it and the owner wants 41.5 for it. It needs new tires he stated which are being replaced, but thats a red flag to me right there. Why in the world would I spend $41K+ on a 10,000 mile used vehicle when I can get a new one for that same price. mmmmmmmmk i'll take new thanks :-)

100% Agree...Heck, you can get a 2012 V8, 4x4 Overland w/ ACC for $42k and I wouldn't be surprised if some have gotten them for $41.5k or less. I know I paid $42,600 and left a little bit on the table, but it was a local dealer convenient to my house.

Yep. but buy a Jeep Wrangler if you want to make money because at least in a dealer's eyes, Wranglers appreciate over time compared to Grands. I'm looking at adding a Wrangler as a work vehicle and the used JKs are selling for more than a new 2012 JK, identically equipped (except for the Penta V6). I was at a suburban dealer in the Chicago metro area and they had a 2012 Sport internet priced at $20,000 but on the same lot they had a 2009 Wrangler-X with ~15,000 miles, equipped with the same pizza cutter wheels and roll up windows and top --- $22,995. There are people dumb enough, I guess.
