Hemi may be dated but it's relatively problem free compared to the Pentastar. My wife calls it the Poop Star. I think they booth feel relative underpowered given their quoted output. I always think of how fast an MDX feels compared to either engine. I think they're both dated and have poor mpg, good thing the GC is so good looking.

Only issue with the Pentastar is some bad cylinder heads. Pentastar is just a couple years older despite what acura says about it being a new design for their V6 and both put out around the same hp and torque. Your MDX is around 800 to 1000 lbs lighter than than a GC depending on engines and options. Its not a hemi BTW. V8 has also had problems and issues Neither the MDX or Pilot can go as far off road as a GC. MDX can have issues going down a grass field even with SHAWD. Pushed a couple new MDXs out of a grass field at the Sheepdog Finals since the SHAWD just couldnt handle the wet grass and a little mud. MDX can only tow 3500lbs. The SHAWD was not designed for off road use or even dirt road use but for dry road handling and all weather.

Wouldnt want to put anyone in that 3rd row seat unless you have nice life insurance policy since they are sitting the crush zone.

I was just talking about an engine. I am well aware of the SH-AWD and it's tow rating. Fact of the matter is, current mdx and previous gen are more athletic and exciting to drive. Although the last previous gen mdx got terrible mpg and they require premium gas.

I agree... not going to be passing anyone that's going 80, but when that slow vehicle in front is only going 45 or so on a two lane road with oncoming traffic every little bit counts. (At least that's the answer I give my wife when I tell her there's no such thing as too much HP )

I'm just about to come to the end of the lease on my Acura TL SH-AWD. Exact same engine and drivetrain to the MDX up to 2013 model year. The 3.7L 305hp engine was a sweet heart and loved the upper end of the rev range. The SH-AWD was unstoppable in the winter. I went around 4x4's that couldn't get up icy hills in the winter. She put the power to the wheels that had the traction. In the summer it was an animal around the twisty stuff and could be coaxed to drift. My friends MDX was a great ride as well even though it was heavier and shy 5hp due to restrictive exhaust routing. The new MDX is likely a great ride too but the styling to be is bland and I needed more off-road utility for my canoeing adventures as well as needing more room for camping with the family and dog.

Loved my Acura and if they come out of their styling funk may go back to them in the future as my 04 TL Aspec and 09 TL SHAWD had zero problems. But I'm loving the hell out of my 14 JGC Limited V8.

Love my overland but it's slow as shit and can't get out of its own way, only have this problem getting on to highway or passing someone. I usually shift into sport. Other than that it's great. Not averaging as much gas as I would like but oh well. I have e85 where I live so enjoying the 2.99 price.

Do u have the V6? I have the V8 and love the power and sound. Mash the throttle and the nose rises and she goes. Not bad for as heavy as she is. Not that much slower than my Acura which is ok as I don't need to be driving that spirited in a 5000+ lb SUV anyway.

They should be since they weigh about 1000lbs less and the prev gen about 700lbs. V6 engines are about equal in technology. Acura has 7 ft lbs more of torque. Torque and hp peaks are within 300rpm+ or -. But peak numbers are misleading its the area under the curves thats important and I cant find curves to compare. I test drove the Pilot and the MDX back in May 12. I havent driven the 2014 but I found the GC better balanced with V6 than the MDX/Pilot back in 2012 since it is based on RWD and the previous gen and current gen are based on FWD platforms. I would much rather chase apexes with a 2014 GC Limited with the ORAI package than a 2014 Pilot/MDX and then I can go off road down a fire road or trail and then across a field etc. Something the MDX cant do. Nothing earth shattering in technology in the new 3.5l for the MDX which probably cam from the RLX/TL.

Depends on what you need I need off road capability which MDX/Pilot will never have. Even the X5 has more off road ability. If I had unlimited funds
I would have gone restored and repowered with a turbo diesel Defender 110.
Just because its the right vehicle to haul Scottish herding dogs to herding trials. I am guessing that at least with me driving lap times at the main circuit at Summit Point would be about equal between a 2014 V6 GC Limited and 2014 MDX SHAWD. Better chassis balance and RWD bias of the GC would make up for the weight handicap. I have at least a couple hundred hours of driving experience there. Now if we also add in lap times on the gravel/dirt road to paddock and then the dirt from the paddock and across the track down to flag station at turn 6 its no contest and the GC wins.

MDX is a very nice CUV/station wagon and a shopping mall bias and the GC a very nice SUV with an off road bias. Both are great choices for their intended missions.

2015 Denali has 420hp and 460 lb ft with 6.2l and 355hp and 383 with 5.3l. You would miss the power even more with 2015.

However I dont like the looks of 2015 Denali in pixs.

Chrysler really needs to give its 5.7l V8 a serious update to compete starting with an aluminum block.

Agreed we wanted a smaller SUV but was hoping for a little more power.
