Towing just isnt the engine compare the towing on the Ram 1500 with the V8 to the Ford 150 with Ecoboost.
The 5.3 is down 30 hp and 35 lbs of torque but whose counting...

Towing is not just about the engine you are correct, which is why Chrysler decided to go with the updated 8 speed transmission instead of developing a new engine.
Watch the faat lane truck on youtube, they have tested all of the manufacturers half tons towing up the ike gauntlet. The hemi beat the Ecoboost by a second, gm wouldnt even send a proper truck to test. They have now put 10000 pounds behind them and the Ecoboost beat the new gm 6.2 by 50 seconds because of the horrendous programming that gm used on the transmission. The hemi has yet to be tested with the higher load however.

I seriously hope not! I love my Jeep! Love that it can go anywhere anytime..... rain or shine!! If it gets dumbed down with the MY2016 then I'll trade up for an Overland and call it a day. That said, keeping it in good condition is good advice!

Since we are talking GC and not the Ram 1500 Chrysler V8 360 vs 355 for 2014 GM V8 and 390 tq for Chrysler vs 383 for the GM. Also the 5.3 is a couple hundred lbs lighter. Dont watch crap on You Tube from folks who have no cred.

We are talking about grand Cherokee's sure, but so far gm still has nothing besides the silverado that has the new 5.3 in it, so comparing it to the ram is fair. The test is hold the truck wide open until you reach the top of the hill, you cant really bias that too much. The fact is they love the new silverado and was completely surprised that it did so poorly. You can keep living in your fantasy land but those are facts. They do testing on every single truck and they all get a pretty fair shot. Being a couple hundred pounds lighter does nothing if you are still down on power and towing capacity.

Now I would still take the hemi as I think it will last longer as it is an iron block and does not rely on turbos to make power. Good for building power on diesels which are built to last and tow, but for an all aluminum application that will last in a passenger car bit towing 10k pounds on a consistent basis? Who knows.
The Durango with the Hemi has a higher towing capacity than the explorer sport by over 2000 Lbs, so other than on paper, not sure why it's better for towing.

That is more about platform and drivetrain than it is the engines. The explorer is more built for being a mini van than a tow vehicle.

So really everyone's arguments about engines are kinda dumb as it's the package it's attached to. Arguing semantics about an engine that's Bette for towing but connected to a car that due to its other parts tows more than a ton less seems silly to me.

Many of the things said here are correct. The Hemi is a big heavy engine, and an aluminum engine is the way to go. Hack look up the mopar crate engines and you'll see they have an all aluminum version of the engine.

However the V8 hemi is a very pleasant engine to drive, has lots of tourqe and power. And the grand Cherokee is one of the best platforms out there now. Just take a denely or an escalade for a spin, it's hugh outside and have no room inside, and the V8 doesn't feel any better then the jeep.

But an escalade weighs more. The 6.2 has a better feel to it, probably because it's not geared so strangely. It's more of a free roller and has an athletic feel to it. And I believe for such a big vehicle it's 0-60 is quicker but I'm not for sure.
