If nothing else, it makes them wonder what's going on with me and might give them pause.

I've actually taken to wearing a bright reflective lime green vest like the cops wear when covering construction zones. The difference in number of people who wait for me to pass when they would have previously pulled out is noticeable. I'm not sure whether they simple see me better or they think I'm a motor cop.

I don't care which as long as they don't wreck me.

As far as my normal gear, I avoid tribal designs because I hear from those who have them on their gear tend to report a lot of close calls. My theory is those complicated designs actually act like a camouflage pattern and make them less visible. Likewise, I avoid bright white, which tends to be excellent at hiding things - something the military has been experimenting with.

For me, solid colors with reflective stripes that differ from the road color (no greys) seem to be the best idea.

Same here fluorescent jacket and I went to a white helmet for maximum visibility.

You can see it in this pic.

Any updates on the d-bag?

Have you brought the jeep in for re-spray yet?

Re: This is why you should invest in a dashcam

So I finally received the police report today and the offenders reason for keying my Jeep was ... "he was upset at **** because he had dropped a weight near his foot, which he did not appreciate, so he decided to key **** car."

I would admit if I dropped a weight near this guy but I don't drop weights and never worked out anywhere near this guy. My friends and coworkers seem to think it was either jealousy or he was upset that I avoid conversation with everyone in the gym. No one will really know except him.

I finally get an estimate on the damage tomorrow and should have it in the should within the next 3 weeks.

Re: This is why you should invest in a dashcam

Let's say you dropped a weight. If I were him, I would just report you as someone to watch at the gym to correct the behavior. Not key a car. And he even knows your car? I find that impossible unless he's been stalking you and definitely had a beef with you for some odd reason as the above awhile back.

In any case, it's not his position to vandalise anyone else's property.

Maybe somebody did drop a weight by his foot, and he just picked the wrong car.

Not that I was expecting a "good reason" anyway but that's the most ridiculous excuse ever lol

Just saying whatever he can to save his ass. It's better than "I don't know" in his mind.

There's no cure for stupid. Well there is, but the constabulary frowns on it. People like him never made sense, and never will.

I read somewhere that yellow motorcycles and helmets tend to get the most attention.

Definitely the lime/fluorescent vest (or jacket) with reflective stripes for visibility!

This thread has convinced the wife that we should invest in a couple dash cams for our vehicles. There are some seriously moronic drivers here in the Twin Cities.

Re: This is why you should invest in a dashcam

There's absolutely no excuse to key another's vehicle, under any circumstances. I agree though, it sounds like he either confused you with someone else or he was attempting to save face in his defense. Your camera just paid for itself a few times over with this incident. It sucks man, sorry you've got to deal with this mess.

I'm curious as to what the gym had to say about suspending this guy. Any update on that?

I sent the report over to the facilities director right after I received it.
Allegedly they are speaking to counsel on what can be done. I guess a video of the guy keying my car was not enough to revoke his membership.

Funny ...or not so funny thing is this is a Park District which you hope would be more reactive since their target audience is families. Not one manager at the gym has approached me to ask about the incident. I reported it with the "acting" manager which basically was the most senior kid working the front desk. I asked one manager about the status of the offender's membership and she was pretty rude. Telling me and my wife there's nothing they can do.
