That is so f'd up. What a idiot. That was so intentional. I would pay big BUCKS to see his reaciton to this video.

Side note: Mind sharing the brand of your dashcam? Would like to purchase the same one you have. Pretty clear HD video! I just bought a 2016 75th edition WK2 and i'll go to war if someone keyed my jeep lol

Re: This is why you should invest in a dashcam

Awesome responses. Some of which initially ran through my head.
I'm taking the legal approach and filing a report tonight. I decided to have the cops come to the location where it happened. If I'm lucky the guy will be in the gym. I'm obviously going to go after him for the cost of repair and a rental car for the time the Jeep is in the shop. Also any diminished value if at all possible.

I had this camera hardwired in my previous car but decided to run it to the center console (which gives power at all times) in my Jeep so I need to physically plug and unplug it.

The cam is a Blackvue DR500GW-HD. I've had it for 3-4 yrs.

Re: This is why you should invest in a dashcam

Man that is absolutely brutal and I don't care what kind of vehicle you'd have been driving. Even worse when it's a beauty as is the case with your WK2!

You'd think a grown man would have a moral compass and know better. It takes all kinds I suppose. He's going to be in for a rude awakening when he finds out it was recorded. When I watched your video and saw him walk past the camera and then heard the key on the panels That footage without sound is one thing but the sound takes the evidence to a completely different level if you ask me.

Good on you for taking the high road and handling it with the authorities as opposed to taking it into your own hands, literally.

So your dash cam, does it plug in via usb or directly into the power port in the center console?

Dunno who your insurance company is, but if you have a good relationship, they may be able to offer advice on recovering all your costs....

PS. Got a camera for his reaction if the police agree to bust his ass right on the premises?

So no problems with draining the battery I guess for the time you've been leaving it on? I'm just afraid with my 8-9 hour work day I come back to a non starting vehicle. Obviously it paid off though.

Don't they only record if they notice motion or something?

Re: This is why you should invest in a dashcam

That's terrible! Really f**ked up thing to do to someone's vehicle.

I do have to ask though, as your dash cam is clearly in the center of the windshield, and it seems that you are lined up directly behind his vehicle that was straddling the line and taking up two spots...were you also straddling the line and taking two spots? Do you park like that regularly? Could that be why this guy is pissed? He walks by once, then back again, and then drives off. Just a thought...I mean he is parked over the line too, but maybe he was in and out quickly. Not trying to defend him by any means...just wonder what his motive/reasoning is.

No matter what, no one should ever tamper with someone's property. Certainly doesn't doesn't make it right by any means...but if you do park in two spots all the time, at least you may know why he was ticked off. Like I said, doesn't mean it's right, but it could be his motive if that is the case.

Hopefully you can get the a**hole to cover it all!

The cam uses very little power and although ive read some people use it 24x7 I only plug it into AC power when it's out in the open. It's in the garage at night.

This cam records at all times but tags the video clip if it senses motion.

No I was parked between the yellow lines. There is a dumpster behind the Jeep on one side so there is no parking zone for waste management to park their truck. I'm parked right next to that no parking zone.
I have been parking there for a few months since that parking lot has less activity at night when the daycare closes. The daycare is adjacent to the gym and there is a driveway to the left in the video that connects the two lots.

There is no doubt the ahole will cover any and all expenses. I won't stop pursuing him until I get my money.
