Tired of waiting, so pulled the trigger

Almost bought a 2013 Trailhawk when they first came out, but the new 8 speed auto in the 2014 convinced me I should wait until 2014. Then Jeep teased us all with the Trailhawk II conecpt, so I waited, and waited. Then I figured I had waited this long, might as well wait to see what the 2015's had to offer. Disappointed once again, so finally pulled the trigger on a 2014 Limited. I know - should have just ordered a 2015, but got a great deal.

I have only had her for 2 weeks, but couldn't stand the stock wheels and tires. On/off road tires my butt!! So, had some XD Heist in 18x8, +35offset put on today wrapped with 265/60-18 BFG Rugged Terrains. Next - rock rails or mud flaps?

Let me know what you think.

Nice! Any issues with rock chips or are the rails keeping them off the body? I see some people are doing rails and mud flaps.

Re: Tired of waiting, so pulled the trigger

I heard some 'dings' as I was driving, which I assumed were rocks hitting the rails. But really haven't had it on gravel long enough to see if chips are going to be an issue. No evidence of any so far, but only 1400 kms on the clock.

The rock rails are more for looks at this point if I put them on. Saved the stock rims in case I want to go crazy with some serious off road tires at some point. For now, the rugged terrains seemed to make sense for on the road 90℅ of the time - not too noisy, but able to handle some trails better than the stock Michelin not on/off road tires.

Re: Tired of waiting, so pulled the trigger

Yeah, one downside is they do make it a bit harder to get in and out of the car, have to step out and over them. I'm not having any success using them as a step.

Most of the reviews I have read say these tires can hold their own offroad. Are they for extreme trails - no way. For a guy that doesn't want to sacrifice a comfortable ride and still take some trails every now and then - we'll see. I really wanted to put on Terra Grappler's, but have 2 friends that have had bad experiences with them.

They are a little louder than I would have hoped, but only in the 40-60 mph range then they quiet back down again. They actually handle better than the stock Michelin's, especially on concrete with the little parallel grooves - the Michelin's squirmed all over the place.
