Congrats on the new ride and I agree with the others that mileage will get better after a few thousand miles. However, it's a Hemi and fuel economy is not its forte. May I suggest you do an an oil change between 1500-2000 miles and then go to a full synthetic at that time. You're mileage and performance will improve with a full synthetic oil but don't change it until the engine has had some run time to properly mate the friction surfaces (1500-2000 miles). Use oil that is acceptable to Chrysler for warranty purposes, of course.
What kind of mileage were you expecting? I'm not trying to be funny, that's a serious question. The V6 is rated at 16/22, and you were happy with the 20.5mpg it returned in mixed driving. The Hemi is rated at 13/19, and you returned the same 1.5mpg difference between your mixed driving and the highway number advertised on the sticker, yet you seem to be surprised.

The Hemi EPA numbers are right at 3mpg lower than the V-6, no matter what you're doing. Keep in mind that it takes a few thousand miles to really get a good idea of how the engine will be for the life of the vehicle, but that sounds like decent mileage for the V-8.
I live 3 hours from the dealership. They gave me a loaner 2011 GC with V6 to drive until I received my Overland. Took delivery of Overland today and disappointed with how much worse the gas mileage is tracking. I expected some surprise, but the V6 averaged 20.5 city/highway and the Hemi is at 17.5 with comparable driving. Can I expect it to get any better? Does anyone have any suggestions how to improve it?
you must have a light foot look at my sig, 17.3MPG with a V6...ur one lucky SOB!!
Thanks for everyone posts... been busy the last couple of days. I'm not disappointed with the gas mileage. I know it is a HEMI. I just was curious what everyone thought and what they were getting. Thanks again for all feedback. I'm tracking down around 16.5 "rural" city.
Just took New Overland 5.7H on 2500 mile trip right out of the dealer parking lot. We averaged 19.6 MPG which I think is awesome out of the box. We also went south from the Midwest thru the mountains and it ran like a Mercedes!
