Took delivery today of Overland - Questions

I live 3 hours from the dealership. They gave me a loaner 2011 GC with V6 to drive until I received my Overland. Took delivery of Overland today and disappointed with how much worse the gas mileage is tracking. I expected some surprise, but the V6 averaged 20.5 city/highway and the Hemi is at 17.5 with comparable driving. Can I expect it to get any better? Does anyone have any suggestions how to improve it?

I think this kind of difference is to be expected. And I don't think it's really that bad.

I do expect it. Has anyone used a modification chip to improve fuel efficiency? I've looked on the forums and don't see anything - maybe I missed it!

Re: Took delivery today of Overland - Questions

It's a 5000 lb. vehicle with a fresh 365hp V8! 17.5 around town is good for this combo, it should also improve slightly with mileage as the rings seat and seal along with the valve stems etc..

My wife has an '09 Charger Daytona with 5.7 Hemi. It gets 17-18 in town and 21-23 on the interstate.

C'mon, you got a Hemi - you shouldn't care about stinkin' fuel efficiency

I haven't seen any information on chips improving fuel efficiency. I did see that you can turn off MDS but this will make it even worse.

My current V8 gets 13mpg.....I wouldn't be to upset about 17.5.

My 2007 Magnum hemi AWD only averages 17.5 and I have a very light foot. The Magnum is also about 800 lbs. lighter than the GC. So consider yourself lucky.

Re: Took delivery today of Overland - Questions

Just to echo the others...
Do expect a slight increase after some miles are added, but also understand that 17.5 is not a bad return for such a heavy vehicle running a V8.

Enjoy! It's a wonderful ride!!!

Accelerate slowly, coast whenever possible, and only brake when necessary.
