Torn

Well after all my research thanks mostly to the jeep garage I have decided to order a new Jeep Grand Cherokee over other suvs. I have been going back and forth on which one to get either a Grand Cherokee Overland or the SRT8. I have test drove the Overland with the 5.7 and liked it. That’s when I saw a new SRT 8 and really loved the look of it. I have not test driven a SRT8 yet. Anyone wish they would have waited a little longer saved some more money purchased the SRT8. I will be ordering in late summer for the 2013 model year. Having just sold my 2006 Corvette Z06 I miss having a fast vehicle a little. But not sure if I want to spend the extra coin.

Re: Torn

I to had a 06 Z06 and just purchased a 2012 Overland v6. The SRT8 sure looks sweet, but wasn't even a consideration for me since it's a daily driven vehicle. Not that it wouldn't work as a daily, but with fuel costs these days owning an SRT8 would just be ridiculous IMO. If you want to spend $100 every full up once a week be my guessed :-)
I just spent $92 bucks today on my Overlands first fill up, but atleast it can go 400+ miles on that tank.
I used to own a 08 SRT8 and it was sweet, but I was at the gas station every 3 days. I sold that puppy!
Even though I'm into performance cars, this Overland V6 is keeping me plenty happy.

James

Re: Torn

I had an SRT8 on order and bailed when they announced the price(bought a Summit) . If you are used to(and want) Z06 pull, the SRT is the way to go. You can get a great sound from the 5.7 with a CAI or Cat-back but it won't have the go. Don't get me wrong I think this thing moves down the road nicely for as big and heavy as it is but...

Re: Torn

Overland with Hemi is a good compromise - if I was going to spend that coin for an SRT8 - I would've just bought another BMW like a 535i M-Sport

Re: Torn

Get the SRT8! I bought an Overland V8 after my '06 SRT8 Jeep and regretted it, I found the Hemi disappointing for 360HP.

Re: Torn

Am opinionated: get the V6 and use the difference to buy a real race car and trailer.

Re: Torn

I appreciate everyone’s opinions I am still going back and forth. I really hope that I will be able to order a 2013 SRT8 for a lot less then sticker. If not I guess it will be an overland with a hemi for me.

Re: Torn

Horses for courses. What's important to you?

If you want the go and style, and do not mind the price premium, lower MPG, and lack of off road abilities, then get the kick-arse SRT8.

Re: Torn

I think you need to ask yourself a couple of questions first:

-Do you need off-road capability? If "yes," then the SRT8 is out.
-Is ass-kicking power a must-have? If "yes," then the Overland is out.

We're in the process of building a cabin. The location dictated a bit of off-road capability and also cut into the amount I could spend on a vehicle at this time. So, for me, the Overland V8 was the clear answer. It offers me everything I'd like to have, except thrilling straight-line performance. It's good, but nothing that's going to induce heart palpitations.

So, I'd approach the decision with those critical questions in mind. The Overland V8's performance is good, but realistically it's not exceptionally fast. The SRT8 is a very serious performance machine and, if I were at a slightly different point in life, it's what I'd have purchased. However, either is an excellent vehicle.
