Tow Hitch

I failed to get the tow package on my 2015 GC Altitude upon purchase. What is the process of purchasing now? Will they just cut my bumper? Anyone have any experience with buying it after the fact?

Re: Tow Hitch

I would stick with the Mopar hitch/wiring package. It's a very clean install. Looks like factory. However, it's not the factory tow package. You don't get the load leveling shocks. You don't get the heavy duty cooling system. So don't expect to be able to tow up to the rated 6200Lbs. I'd say you can tow half that.

Tow Hitch

I bought my Altitude with no hitch option but it already came with load leveling rear shocks and trailer wiring . He probably already has both of those pre installed as well.

I opted for the curt hitch as I only need it for my bike rack or cargo carrier.

If you are looking for them I have a set of load leveling shocks for sale and mounts if yours didn't already come with them if you plan on towing substantial loads. They just cut the bumper to fit the factory hitch it's marked on the back of the bumper cover so they know how to cut it.

Ok great thanks!

I need to look into this. I my self also mountain bike here in Delaware and need to be able to use my Thule rack. I'm not too concerned about being able to haul anything except maybe 2 jet skies.

Re: Tow Hitch

I thought all GCs were shipped with a hitch receiver, due to gas tank rear collision issue... is this incorrect?

i have summit without hitch which has the detachable hitch cover in the rear bumper. the mopar hitch instructions talk about taking off the whole back bumper to cut out the opening for the hitch. since my summit has a detachable opening, would i be able to avoid that step?

The gas tank on the WK2 is not even behind the rear bumper. You must be thinking about the older GC's models with that problem (pre WK).

Re: Tow Hitch

Oops, you're right. I googled it and the recall was for '93 to '98 models. I'd just read about the recall last year and didn't notice the model years affected. Assumed it was more current.

Re: Tow Hitch

I had one added in my 2013 Durango - they did it the day I bought it.. took about 3 hours but it looks like it was factory installed. I was afraid of how it might look. Cost me about $450 for the parts and labor.

I had a 3rd part one done for my 11 Durango and I was never thrilled with it even though it was less than half the cost - It went under the bumper and just had that aftermarket look. I was just using it for my bike also so it wasn't big deal but I definitely preferred the 'factory' look.
