Re: Towing thread

Here's ours. 28 foot travel trailer; 5.7l tows it like a champ, and the Magnaflow Performance exhaust really talks under the load

Re: Towing thread

Another view showing the length of the setup. Overall weight is about 6,700 lbs. I want to get it to a scale and find out for sure. The camper is 5,900 dry

Have you noticed any issues in side winds at highway speeds with that long of a trailer?

Re: Towing thread

Not since I added another anti-sway bar on the driver's side. I had only the passenger side bar when we towed our last trailer (19 foot). Now it is very stable. We also use the Eazlift weight distribution hitch system. I have Firestone spring airbags in the rear of the Cherokee to dampen heavy bumps at highway speed and they are great. We air them up when towing and down when not. We're very pleased with the towing ability of our Cherokee.

Re: Towing thread

Have been towing a 24' camper with my diesel GC and a Blue Ox hitch. The short wheelbase (compared to a full size truck) is subject to some instability particularly when big rigs pass at high speed. Not enough to force me into another lane but enough to keep me on edge at all times. An article in this months Trailer Life magazine had a GC towing a similar trailer. The GC had a Hellwig rear sway bar installed and supposedly this improved handling. Has anyone here had experience with this? Cost is under $200 for a self install which is doable. Also--would this affect the factory warranty? By the way--other than the slight sway the GC does fine--handles hills as if they weren't even there. Getting about 16 mpg towing under varied conditions.

Did your jeeps not come with the factory tow package? The load leveling suspension does great on mine, working in conjunction with the factory WD hitch. I also have trailer sway control haven't had any issues on the highway.

Re: Towing thread

I sold my 2 door Blazer today, so now it's time for the wife and I to decide if we want to keep towing our travel trailer with the GC or not. If not, I'll be buying a good used pickup soon, probably a 3/4 ton, so we don't outgrow it very soon

Yes, have the factory tow package but do not have the air suspension.

I tow a 30' travel trailer with my Overland and so far no issues except emergency brake light comes on for no reason. Anyone else who tows campers have this problem.

Re: Towing thread

Anyone know if the Hellwig rear sway bar (#7732) can be used on a Summit with quadra-lift? I have been towing our 25' hybrid camper around quite a bit since getting it in late June and would love the extra stability. Not to mention that when not towing I drive like a bat out of h3ll anyway and miss the cornering capability of my old vehicle.

The factory tow package includes rear air shocks.

They are load-leveling shocks, which while using pneumatic action are different from and separate than the QL air suspension.
