Correct, and the hitch itself can, but not the vehicle it's attached to without help. It's no different than UHaul installing a Class III hitch on a Civic. The hitch can handle more than the car it's attached to.

Re: Towing thread

Right, but we're talking about an oem manufacturer. Why are the different level Grand in the infographic given either class 3 or 4, it isn't because of different hitches, it's because of the other equipment.

I questioned the issue people were having and in case I had it later with a different trailer. I then came with information from Jeep as to not misinform people of what their Grand Cherokee is rated for, not to hear your internet power trip, Sir CHEROKEE towing expert.

Bless your heart. Thank you for acknowledging my supreme knowledge and the fact that I do, indeed, know everything . It's good to get some affirmation. I'll be sure to add you to my "can't be taught a darn thing" list, grasshopper.

You've educated people today for sure... Anyone who read your posts knows you have a superiority complex and are a chode. I cannot learn anything from the ignorant.

You really should look into hiring a lawyer; so you can sue your brain for non-support.

Re: Towing thread

In Australia a WDH is only recommended and even then there was a period of time Jeep Au was advising against using a WDH at all.

Re: Towing thread

The hitch receiver class doesn't reflect the vehicle's towing capacity...that involves a lot more. Jeep happens to equip JGC with factory towing with a class IV hitch receiver, but the max rating for a 4x4 with the Hemi or EcoDiesel is 7200 lbs. While the hitch receiver can handle more than that, the JGC cannot. As already noted, they also require a WDH for towed loads over 3500 lbs. (although a WDH cannot be used when a trailer has inertial/surge brakes) Many folks do tow higher than 3500 lb loads without a WDH, but it's not the best idea for safety. Jeep does not provide WDH...they need to be sized for the specific trailer load and characteristics.

One other important thing...JGC cargo capacity isn't high and tongue weight is subtracted from that to determine what is left for passengers and "stuff".

Re: Towing thread

prob a dumb question but...does the hitch mount and ball come with the factory tow package? I ask because mine did not, and I wasn't sure if it was supposed to.

Negative. The hitch and ball you will need to buy on your own as it will depend upon what you plan to tow.

No as noted in the previous reply. The hitch mount and ball requirements vary by trailer and the manufacturer wouldn't know what drop, if any, is needed and what ball size is required for a given customer.
