Re: Trade 2012 for 2014? Who is going this route?

I've driven dozens of rental Chargers and 300's with the 3.6 and both the 5 speed and the 8 speed. The 8 speed definitely wakes up the 3.6. It would be nice to see what it does to the Hemi. The larger screen is also out now on the Charger/300. It is a nice improvement over the screen in my '12 Overland. I may consider trading on a '14 Diesel if the numbers worked.

Re: Trade 2012 for 2014? Who is going this route?

Assuming major model upgrade is MY16, then trading in my MY11 for a MY14 and then MY17 is something I am considering. Of course that in itself is not the only reason. If I get another Limited then I would get Luxury pkg. and maybe OR at least. On the other hand, I would consider the Overland assuming the QL maker can get their act together. "Air" shocks have been around probably since WW II or earlier, you would think they would be reliable by now.

Dont shy away from something great just because some guys on this forum has had issues. Just remember, this suspension is on a LOT of vehicles and the majority are problem free. I use the air suspension all the time its awesome!

Re: Trade 2012 for 2014? Who is going this route?

The added potential of the 8 speed has me considering swapping my 2012 for a new 2014 at some point next year. A couple of miles to gallon would help me justify the Jeep to my wife who is trying to make up for my carbon footprint.

I encourage all of you to trade in your 2011 and 2012s. Keep this economy moving.

I will wait for the bugs to get worked out but may consider a 2015. If the differences are not that great, and two mile per gallon improvement may not be worth the money lost in a trade, I will wait for the WK3.

What bugs? This is not a all new Grand Cherokee. Its just a refresh with minimal changes to the 2011-2013 models with parts that have been used in other vehicles now for probably years. I am one that would normally agree to stay away from first year models, but the 2014 is nothing like that. I would not hesitate to purchase a 2014 for one second. Im not knocking your decision, just saying skipping out on a 2014 because of bugs isnt really a valid issue.

Re: Trade 2012 for 2014? Who is going this route?

I'm in Robey5's camp. I only buy new vehicles, since then I know how they have been maintained from the beginning, and then I drive it until I get all useful life out of it. No sense turning in a perfectly good vehicle for new payments just because of a few new gadgets. I generally go between 12 and 15 years before getting a new vehicle and that translates into 10+ years of no car payments. Repairs/routine maintenance in the later years may be $1000 - $1500/yr or so but that sure beats car payments. And since I bought the lifetime warranty on the Grand Cherokee, I don't see getting rid of that until its book value is nil.

Further, I have heard about the 8sp tranny - but from what I know about these types of upgrades - the MPG will be a little better, but not nearly enough to take a bath (....shower.... and a golden shower...) in a trade-in business case.

Some may tell me that the 8sp will get me into the 30MPG range with my hemi and the radio will perform favors like locking my doors at my house while at the office: I still don't/wouldn't care, and would not consider the trade in. Just my $0.02.

Re: Trade 2012 for 2014? Who is going this route?

I'm going to hold out for the 2025 model and the 12 speed trans. I can't see the advantage of chasing every new feature every few years. I usually go 200k+ on my rides.

Re: Trade 2012 for 2014? Who is going this route?

It's all a moot point anyways, nobody is going to get a 2014 model. The world ends in December ya know. I'm going to enjoy my '11 until the world ends
