Trade In???

I have a 2012 JGC Laredo. We just hit 50k miles on the thing. So far, between warranty work and recalls, I have had the cylinder head replaced due to the misfire on #2 issue, steering rack replaced, temp sensor replaced, blower motor replaced, transmission reprogrammed twice, and finally the recalls of sun visor, brake booster, and waiting on alternator. There may be something that I am missing. So here is my dilemma:

The warranty is up and I don't have faith in this car, based on the service history. I love the way it rides, handles snow, looks, and generally feels. My dealer is offering me a pretty decent deal on a trade in for a new 2014 JGC Limited or Durango Limited. That said, I don't know if I want to invest in another Jeep/Dodge that may give me this many problems. I drove the '14 Durango and JGC and really like them both. Its the freaking reliability that concerns me, especially compared to Toyota... I have a 01 Lexus with 168k on the clock that still drives like it's new.

What are your guys' thoughts?

A) Keep the 2012 and hope nothing else major goes? Trade it in when it's paid off (another year and a half)

B) Trade it in for the JGC or Durango?

C) Go with Toyota/Lexus knowing I will get less bells/whistles for the $$$.

Re: Trade In???

You can also buy an extended warranty if you want to keep it and want peace of mind. Trading in on a new one is the most costly avenue, and it will have problems, as Jeep/Chrysler is the worst manufacturer according to JD power and assoc. quality surveys. I got the extended and it saved me thousands in repair bills, and now that my extended is expired, it has been reliable now for a couple of years...knock on wood.

Re: Trade In???

That seems about right considering the trade and new model. You might be able to squeeze for a little more.

Re: Trade In???

The actual Toyota brand is no more reliable than any other car manufacturer anymore (for new cars, not talking about the old Toyotas). Lexus is Toyota's higher end, so it will be better. I know more than one person who swears on the reliability of their Toyota car or truck, yet they've been in the shop multiple times for warranty issues. Not saying you should not consider a Toyota/Lexus, I am just saying they have their Monday/Friday vehicles as well.

My wife's 2014 JGC was bought slightly used, but we have not had it in the shop once yet for any issues, just the recalls.

Re: Trade In???

Hey can someone help me I got a 02 jeep Cherokee limited high output v8 and I have 31' tires with 16" rims. There are 5 lugnuts, but they don't match up they are about a quarter of an inch difference. Isn't there a plate I can add on the wheel well or something to adjust it to the size needed? I'm not sure where to get or what is it called. I don't wanna buy new rims to put these tires on. Someone please help me out and tell me what and where I can purchase this. Also what else is some good idea to fix up my jeep for off roading I already have a 2 inch suspension and a few other specs. Thanks

Re: Trade In???

Go for the new one!

Sorry to hear about your issues with your 2012. My 2005 for 6 years had literally zero issues. My 2011 and 2014 each had one issue upon delivery that were corrected (2011 one seat cover had pretty loose leather on the seat bottom and 2014 had the front half axle boot clamp issue) and no issues since (other than a few minor "recall" things that are taken care of at the time of oil changes). I've had six GC's and obviously been very happy with them.

d: Keep the 12 and buy an extended warrenty

Am biased, the only trouble I've had with my '12 is difficullty reading the instruments with sunglasses on. Just keep the EVIC on MPH. Did buy a lifetime warrenty.
