Traded an 11 for an 11...

I purchased an 11, Black/beige JGC Overland v6 with no additional options in september 2010. 15,000 miles later I traded it in for an 11 black/black overland, v8 with tech package with a build date of May 2011. I had a situation where I needed to get rid of a second vehicle..so i made a decision to trade in my 11 JGC and the second vehicle.

The deal

Sticker $46,410
Price paid $40,500 (including $1000 customer rebate, $1,000 usaa rebate)

Trade-in on the Jeep
msrp $42,495
I paid approx $39,400 last year
Trade-in value $36k

I didnt have to pay Sales tax on the new vehicle due to my trades.

Some may think its crazy what I did, but I think it was a good deal of course! It cost me roughly $3,500 in depreciation however i did get 15,000 miles out of it at least. Also, dealer included 2 years of oil changes at any chrysler/jeep/dodge dealership at 3,000 or 3 month intervals.

Comparison of my two 11 jeeps

I obviously love the JGC. The v6 was a quiet, smooth engine and i had no problems with it the short time I had it. The beige interior held up very well. Ive only had the new hemi for a couple days, however, i love the effortless acceleration; mainly the extra torque. I averaged 18-19 miles per gallon on the v6 with combination driving. The new, unbroken-in hemi is at 16-16.5 with similar driving. The tech package is pretty useful, so far im happy I got it. I went with the 2011 over the 2012 due to the extra rebates and fairly unchanged features in the 2012. I contemplated an exterior color change, but I really just do like the black. Thought about silver, mineral grey, and dark charcoal. The supply of 2011 overlands in my area were dwindling, but i was able to find the exact one i wanted ( was the last one however i was limited because i wanted a more recent 2011 build date). The srt8 would of been an option for me at a lower price.

Anway, hope this helps anyone who is shopping for a new Jeep. In my opinion, you wont go wrong with whatever jeep you pick as long as it fits your needs.

Hell, if they gave you 36 on a car you paid 39,4 for with 15K miles, I think you did pretty darned good! You basically rented a car for $3,400 for the year, that's less than what a lease would run. I think you did the right thing and now you have the GC you really wanted. Congrats! I'm impressed you got that much for the trade!

Nice, glad you stayed in the fold Suprand. I seem to recall another member doing the same to specifically get the Hemi upgrade. Enjoy.

I'm actually SPEECHLESS that you only "lost" $3,400. I thought on a car like that, the moment you drive off the lot you're underwater by $10K...

Great deal!

I am going to get a new JGC in Brilliant Black and trying to decide between black interior and beige interior. Why did you get the beige interior initially and then why did you get the black interior for this new Jeep? Which interior color do you like best, just based on looks?

Part of it, to tell you the truth, was since i was keeping the black exterior, I wanted to slightly change it up. I considered the saddle as well. The beige is a great color as long as you are clean. I kept mine in great shape. The only scuffs i noticed (but were not bad at all) were in the trunk along the panels. I really like both the black and the beige.

Great deal!
I went to multiple dealerships..they always low balled initially; however, they were consistently between 35k-35.5k. The dealership i went to last gave me the best deal obviously. Maybe it was a combination of end of the month, 12's coming in, and they had 29 11's on the lot. This dealership was on the outskirts of where i live as well, so maybe more motivation there.

You got a good deal all around, and how much do we spend for happiness? If you are happier with this one then it doesn't matter. She's a beauty. Best of luck with it.

Re: Traded an 11 for an 11...

wow, that is a crazy trade-in value they gave you. I am close to pulling the trigger on an '11 and I have found a few low mile overlands with the v6 for around or a little less than what they gave you for trade.

Yea, I just looked to see what the dealership listed my trade-in at...$39,950....which is pretty high in my opinion considering 2011 model closeout pricing. Yes it is only an asking price, but still
