Trading in my '13 Limited for '14 Overland

I know many of you will think this is a dumb move or short sighted on my part, but the 2014 was the Jeep I wanted all along. I was deployed in Afghanistan and they have a car buying service there, where you can get pretty good deals on nice cars. I sold my previous car prior to deploying, so I had to do something for my impending return. I did a lot of research (this was August) and discovered that the 2013 model year would be a short one with the 2014's right around the corner. However, I was redeploying in September, with a road trip planned from Michigan to Florida and back to Colorado. So, with that, I bought the 2013 Limited V8 w/ORA2, Luxury Group 2, Advanced Technology Group, and Trailer Tow Group IV in the Mineral Grey, w/ tan interior. I tried loving it, talking myself into being happy with what I had. Then, last weekend, I saw a 2014 JGC Limited in a parking lot...

Upon seeing this, I knew I would never be 100% happy with what I have. I'm a self-admitted technology whore and LOVE the new dash and center console compared to the dated look of the '13. I went into my dealer on Friday to test drive a couple of them. Didn't realize how big of a difference the Overland's look from the Limited's this year, so had to make the choice of upgrading a trim level to the Overland. I was contemplating saving some money and going for the V6, but after driving them both, I don't know what it was, but the '14 Hemi seemed to have a little more ooomph to it than my '13 right now. I was trying to convince myself, or rather, have others convince me that I didn't need to upgrade so soon, but even the girlfriend said that this was the one I've wanted and that if I'm going to spend the money then I should at least be happy with it. When you get the ok from the wifey/girlfriend, you know you're in the clear.

After looking around in the 500 mile radius we couldn't find any to my specifications. My last few cars I've played it safe with a grey exterior and black or tan interior, so had to switch it up this time to Max Steel Ext, Indigo Blue Int., 4x4, V8, Quadra-Drive, Advanced Technology. The order button was hit on Saturday and now the waiting game begins....

Been loving checking out everyone's photos so far. Been tearing myself up with whether to stick with the 20s or get the ORA2 and the 18s. Really, really loving the look of the 20s and I'm not much of a rock crawler, so I think the light trails I do go off on won't factor much.

Not much point to this post other than feeling like putting my thoughts/experiences out there.

Sometimes you just have to do what makes you happy as long as you feel you are getting a good deal and can afford the swap. I did the same thing with my '11 and just traded for the '14. And I can safely say that if they re-designed it again in 3 or 4 years and it stirred my passion, I would most likely trade up again.

Good luck on your new purchase. Oh and by the way, the reason why the hemi felt like it had more zest is because of the new 8 spd tranny, it is also what sold me on the upgrade.

Agreed. In the end it's about $100 more a month in payments, but no big deal. I'm sure I'll be in the same boat as you in a few years, lusting over the new models, but I'm really digging the new style of the '14s and the driving experience feels that much better thanks to the 8-speed you mentioned (engine also sounded more powerful to me as well).

Ready to get my VIN so I can start obsessively checking VOTS every day...
