Trail Rated

I know there are a lot of threads on this and I can look at the Jeep website but I've read conflicting things here. I've read that trail rated includes extra water proofing and a few other additional items in addition to skid plates. I've also read that trail rated is only the three skid plates. Is it only skid plates or are there additional changes to trail rated Jeeps?

Re: Trail Rated

The confusion is because of the wording, or how it is interpreted.

To be Trail Rated, a Jeep needs to meet certain standards of water protection. That doesn't mean that a non-trail rated Jeep doesn't meet the same standard.

On a Grand Cherokee Limited, 4X4 it is basically the skid plates. On the Overland it would also include swapping the 20" tires for 18's. This is most likely for the higher sidewall.

And, without the badge you better stay on a smooth, paved road.

Or, even with the badge, should you have an EcoDiesel without one of Dom's aftermarket DEF skid plates.

Re: Trail Rated

Thank you, I appreciate it. I would have regretted not getting the off road package if it included additional water proofing and other add ons. The skid plates are no big deal to bolt on.

It's a lot more than just the skid plates that are required to get the Trail Rated badge - when you order either ORA package on a Limited you get the same components as in the Overland. I got the ORA II in mine, here's what's included in it:

OFF-ROAD ADVENTURE II (AWY) N/A W/AWL [MSRP $1,795 / INV. $ 1,598] / with EXF or EZH: [MSRP $2,495 / INV. $ 2,221]
220 Amp Alternator (BAJ)
7 and 4 Pin Wiring Harness (XF2)
Class IV Receiver Hitch (XFH)
Delete Rear Tow Hook (XC8)
Elec LTD Slip Differential Rr Axle (DSF) (with 3.0L or 5.7L)
Front Suspension Skid Plate (XEU)
Fuel Tank Skid Plate Shield (XEE)
Full Size Spare Tire (TBB)
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling (NMC)
P265/60R18 BSW AS On/Off Rd Tires (TP5)
Quadra-Drive II 4WD System (AWB) (with 3.0L or 5.7L)
Quadra-Lift (TM) Air Suspension (SER)
Selec-Speed (TM) Control (BNK) (with 5.7L)
Skid Plate Group (ADL)
Steel Spare Wheel (WLB)
Tow Hooks (XEA)
Trail Rated Badge (MT2)
Trailer Tow Group IV (AHX)
Transfer Case Skid Plate Shield (XEF)
Underbody Skid Plate (XF3)

Re: Trail Rated

Thanks for the help with it. Definitely seems to vary considerably by type (Limited, Overland etc) and engine size. I have an Overland with the V6, so it seems mines a lot simpler (no QD etc w/out the V8 or Diesel). I believe the V6 Overland is just the skid plates and wheel size/tires, so really personal preference on which wheels you prefer as the skid plates are an easy addition.
