I was thinking of dipping a badge in gold and changing it to 'Sand Rated' since I don't have skid plates yet. Think that would fly?
As long as you are happy with it. The rest of the folks who see it won't GARA what it says.

Re: Trail Rated Badge Location

Jeep should require those with 20" wheels on a WK2 to feature a Mall Rated badge. How far do you air-down your 20 inchers?

I don't let my wife take my GC to the mall, I'm afraid she'll come home with a bunch of dinks. I'd rather take me chances off road with the 20 inchers.

Soon after arrival, my TH had "Arizona Pin Stripes", a ding in a wheel and mud/sand all over it. Just last week, she got her first skid plate use in CO. Such is the real badge of a properly used Trail Rated vehicle. Get out there and use/enjoy your Jeep!!!

Unfornately Long Island sucks for off-roading. You can get a beach permit for several beaches out east, but for the most part you have to off-road illegally. If someone knows where you could on L.I. please chime in. Nothing crazy, you know I have 20" and no badge

There are actually lots of beaches with access on Long Island. The problem is there is no permit to cover all of them. State, County, and some Towns all have their own permits. On top of that, some of the beaches require you to be fishing.

I don't know if they kept it up, but 10 years ago the State experimented with beach access for photographers. This was initiated at the request of a photography club. As long as you had a permit and a camera you were good to go. If interested contact someone at NWPLI - Nature and Wildlife Photographers of Long Island.

Even the Long Island Off Roaders schedule their meets in Ct, Mass, or upstate NY.

It ain't easy.

Re: Trail Rated Badge Location

There is an outer beach pass you can get. This will show you the beaches you can use it on. You don't have to be fishing it's really designed for camping, but fisherman do get additional access areas and times.

Aside from the beach, I would be happy for a few trails somewhere that have some hills that I can just explore around a bit.

I also should have noted that I'm either getting new tires (Nitto TGs or GY Wrangler Adventures) or a set of 18" wheels with A/Ts. The stock tires have been fine for the off-roading I've done, even though it wasn't incredibly hardcore.

I've been debating that one since I got my Jeep 7 months ago. Do I get the TGs in stock or 275/55 with the RRO Level or do I just get a 2nd set of 18" for off-roading. Benefits either way. All said I'd rather have one tire and I like the extra clearance with the 275, but I don't want to compromise too much if taking the Jeep on a long Trip with a lot of highway between.

NJ Pine Barrons seems like a good spot to wheel, its the only public place to wheel in our area, all different levels of trails there. I'd take the trip with you if you are interested.

Very tempting offer CC and I could also check out your Jeep with 275s and the Level. Let me get back to you on that, where you thinking toward end of summer?
