Re: TRAIL RATED is a JOKE!

Ok, spoke to jeep and also got an email.

1. For the overland, the 5.7 engine does NOT give you the limited slip like it did in 2011
2. For 2012, its the off road adventure package II that gives you the ELSD
So the price difference is due to the rear diff. When i ordered my overland on thursday, in hindsight, i remember seeing the description of the ORAII as containing the ELSD.

If true, we need to update wk2jeeps...

And no, the price did not go down for the 5.7 engine, my speculation is that it slightly increased due to the "NEW" 6 speed transmission (yeah, i have read the posts).

They are going to get back to me to confirm a few other things:

1. Could a reason for the option being cheaper on the summit or other vehicles be that under some configurations, ORA pkgs do not include the ELSD. (thats my guess)

2. Can i order a v6 and get ELSD?

3. What is the real deal with this "new" 6 speed transmission.

So, it probably does not change the equation or logic for whether you want to go 2011 or 2012, but this might help someone who was thinking of getting the v8 and then adding the badge and skid plates your self...for 2012, doing this would not give you the ELSD.....

Remember, don't kill the messenger, this is just what i was told.

Re: TRAIL RATED is a JOKE!

If what Bromhead is saying is true, it appears Jeep is already beginning the "de-contenting" of the Grand.

Very disappointing. I was excited by the possibility of purchasing one of then new Grands, but to be honest, I'm becoming less so. Maybe I'm just mildly depressed by the fact that in these quite hard financial times, Jeep is trying to bend us over just that little bit harder.

Re: TRAIL RATED is a JOKE!

I don't know if it's true.

This 2012 Grand Cherokee description says it has Electronic Limited Slip and Quadra Drive II.

Link: http://www.overlandparkjeepdodge.net...8bc6ce4338.htm - look at options and powertrain. The window sticker itself doesn't list them, but neither did the 2011 Overland window sticker.

Re: TRAIL RATED is a JOKE!

Here is the email from jeep. They seem pretty clear, and it would explain the price delta (sort of) and why some configurations do not have full the price increase. If its not on the sticker, how would a new 2012 owner verify they have ELSD? I see we just had a forum member pick up a 2012 overland v-8, without the ORAII pkg i believe. I wonder how he would validate this?
Dear Christopher:

Congratulations on your pre-ordered 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
model!

I would be more than happy to clarify with you what adjustments were
made with the 2012 model year vs. the 2011 model year for the Jeep Grand
Cherokee Overland model. With the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4
model with the 5.7L V8 engine, the Quadra-Drive II and Rear Electronic
Limited Slip was standard equipment.

For the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 model with the 5.7L V8
engine, you must equip the Off-Road Adventure Group II in order to equip
the Quadra-Drive II 4WD System with the Rear Electronic Limited-Slip
Differential. For the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition
4x4 with the 5.7L V8 engine, the Quadra-Drive II 4WD System with the
Rear Electronic Limited-Slip Differential is standard equipment.

Please keep in mind that the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 model
with the 5.7L V8 engine now has the all-new 6-Speed Automatic 65RFE
Transmission and the Media Center 730N, while the 2011 model year would
have had the 5-Speed Automatic 545RFE Transmission.

For the 2012 model year, the Off-Road Adventure Group II includes the
following:

- 18 x 8.0 Aluminum Polished Wheels
- Rear Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (with Quadra-Drive II 4WD
System)
- Front Suspension Skid Plates
- Fuel Tank Skid Plate Shield
- P265/60R18 OWL All-Season On/Off Road Tires
- Quadra-Drive II 4WD System (includes Rear Electronic Limited-Slip
Differential)
- Skid Plate Group
- Tow Hooks
- Trail Rated Badge
- Transfer Case Skid Plate Shield
- Underbody Skid Plate

If you have any further questions regarding the order of your 2012 Jeep
Grand Cherokee order, I would strongly advise working with your Jeep
dealership who you have placed the order through.

You are always welcome to reply back to this email and I will respond
back to you as promptly as I can. If you prefer, you can also call me
directly with your questions at the Jeep Product Information Center by
calling 1-800-964-0600. When you call, I can connect you directly to
your Jeep dealership, providing your call is during the dealer's hours
of operation.

Again, congratulations on your order, Christopher. Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Shannon

Thanks Brom! So basically the ORAG II price increase is $720 for just ELSD? That seems steep but that at least helps clarify the ORAG II mystery...good job! I love how they talk up the "NEW" 6spd transmission or er...the reprogrammed same gear ratio 5spd from 2011

Re: TRAIL RATED is a JOKE!

Yep, pretty quick response too...i think i emailed them last night. Man, i can tell you though, if i ordered a 2012 v8 thinking i was getting the rear "locker" and would simply save a grand and add the plates myself...I WOULD BE PISSED

Anyways, car is still a great deal compared to my other option...lr4.

I'd be out for BLOOD!

Also, I'd always choose the 20" road wheels and spec my own off-road wheel and tire package and add aftermarket skid plates. Being forced to buy the off road package via Jeep stinks.

De-contenting is all it is.

Re: TRAIL RATED is a JOKE!

I doubt the ELSD would be available for the V6 with ORAG - I seem to recall the engineers saying the V6 drivetrain wasn't sufficient for QD-II.

If that's the case, then I would hope the ORAGII would remain at $275 for the V6.

Re: TRAIL RATED is a JOKE!

Why can't I get the Overland Summit with black leather?!!!!!

I hate how Jeep limits the build process, especially with the interior choices and 20" polished wheels in combination with wood color on U.S. builds.
