Trailhawk VS Summit

Hello All, long time lurker and first time posting! I am looking for a '17 JGC. My wife beat me to buying one last year, picked up a '15 Summit in early '16 for a good deal.

I am interested in the Summit as well, but also really intrigued by the Trailhawk. So my local dealer got a Trailhawk on the lot yesterday and I took it for a quick spin today.

My impressions:
Trailhawk looks nice, the suede seats were nice but in south florida they feel very warm compared to standard leather, I felt that they trap a lot of extra heat, so using the ventilated seat option is a must in warm climate unless you want swamp a-s.

The other feature I wanted to test out that is new was the 'Lane departure warning plus'. It did a very good job on the interstate keeping the vehicle in the lane, even around a bend in the highway.

One thing I was hoping Jeep had adjusted was the blind spot monitoring but they did not. From my experience driving my wife's '15, the BSM does not alert until the oncoming vehicle actually breaks the plane of bump to bump alignment. I'd prefer it to alert about 15 - 20 feet back like my current Mazda CX-5 does, that way it alerts before the vehicle is actually right next to you.

My questions:

1. Does the Trailhawk with both additional packages (Jeep Active Safety Group, Trailhawk Luxury Group AND both stand alone options for Uconnect 8.4 NAV and Blind Spot and Cross Path Detection) lack anything the Summit has?

2. Does the Trailhawk have anything additional or better than the Summit?

3. It appears that in south florida that the dealers are not getting many '17 Summit models early on. I've been pouring over about a dozen dealership webpages in the area and it looks like every other model is shipping but there are only about 3 Summit models on the websites at the moment. Is this a local thing or nationwide?

4. What are other forum members opinions on the new Summit nappa leather in Indigo and Ski Gray package availible, do you think it's worth the $5k price tag?

Re: Trailhawk VS Summit

I'm curious about the seats. From pictures I have seen the Trailhawk seats look like the SRT seats with more side bolstering. Could you tell any difference in that regard on the Summit?

Re: Trailhawk VS Summit

The trailhawk seats appear to be the same as the SRT seats.

There are very few '17 Summit models in South Florida, there are none around at all that have the new interior so I've yet to see it. Has anyone on here seen the new color interior?

1. Does the Trailhawk with both additional packages (Jeep Active Safety Group, Trailhawk Luxury Group AND both stand alone options for Uconnect 8.4 NAV and Blind Spot and Cross Path Detection) lack anything the Summit has?

Summit has HK Audio, more sound deadening, etc. Summit is marketed as a luxury SUV

2. Does the Trailhawk have anything additional or better than the Summit?

Greater QL "articulation"; tow hooks, QD with ESLD with v6, etc. Trailhawk is marketed as having off-road prowess...

3. It appears that in south florida that the dealers are not getting many '17 Summit models early on. I've been pouring over about a dozen dealership webpages in the area and it looks like every other model is shipping but there are only about 3 Summit models on the websites at the moment. Dealer orders for inventory reflect their perceived demand and also what they might already have available in MY16 stock. If they didn't order MY17 Summits, they will not have them. Jeep doesn't "push" inventory...

4. What are other forum members opinions on the new Summit nappa leather in Indigo and Ski Gray package availible, do you think it's worth the $5k price tag?

Looks great. Likely feels good. Meets my personal requirement for a light colored interior. Cost is a completely show-stopper for me. If it was $500 or even a grand...maybe. But $5K? No. Flipping. Way.

Re: Trailhawk VS Summit

How are dealers getting all these 2017s on the lot already when you can't even build one on the Jeep.com website?? I really want to see a trailhawk in person. Looks like Koons has a ton of Summits already, but the demographic here supports that pretty well. Wow, quite a few trailhawks too.

Damn, I thought all summits had the quilted leather. And now they don't have the black headliner even with black interior??

The BSM on my '14 must work differently than yours. It alerts me to cars that are way behind my bumper. Enough that I turned off the lane change warning because I'm always changing lanes in front of cars while the BSM light is still on with plenty of room to spare.

Re: Trailhawk VS Summit

I could be wrong but i think the Jeep site will get updated for the 2017s on Sept 1st. I ordered a Trailhawk on Aug 9th....Seems like the lots around here are getting dealer stock. There are a few on lots around the Slat Lake City area....

Just looked, Koons has over 100 2017's on their website haha. Insane when the Jeep website barely even mentions them other than the summit and trailhawk minisite.

Koons has 3 V8 Trailhawks, two white and one granite.

The initial ordering is for dealers to have stock when the new model year is introduced. Until that time Jeep.com promotes the current model year.

You can configure a '17 @ WK2 Jeeps ... link at bottom of this, and every page, of this site.

Re: Trailhawk VS Summit

I notice none of the Trailhawks I see on cars.com have the 20" 5 star wheels.
Wonder why?

Order banks for MY17 have been open for a couple months now and production started in July. 4-6 weeks is the typical order to delivery time, so what's arriving is pretty much normal.

@dcorn, I emailed my local Jeep/Dodge Dealer, and told them I wanted a GC Trailhawk. That was back on August 18th or so. The dealer called me on the 26th saying they had a Trailhawk.

I made an appointment to test drive it last Saturday at 7pm. I drove off the lot with it at a quarter til Midnight. Last Monday, I took it back in because they wanted to detail it for me and fill up the gas tank. I saw another Trailhawk coming in on a truck.

There's so many other vehicles I'd buy before I'd own to GCs lol
