Received an updated wiring harness instruction sheet today for harness kit #68088278AB. (Ground circuit BLACK), (Stop lamp signal feed, WHITE WIRE with violet stripe), (+12 Volt, 30 amp max, Battery feed), (Electric brake feed DARK GREEN WIRE) Says you need a battery isolator unit or trailer battery could discharge vehicle battery when not running. Haven't looked at old instructions to see what the change was. If you have tow group you may get this notice. I have owned vehicle for over a year and I just received this today.
I got mine in the mail today...basically it says to take the old wrong instruction sheet (AA) out and replace it with this new sheet (AB). The notice could have been a bit clearer along with the card you send back in once you complete the "repair" (the repair is swapping out the instruction sheet).
I am trying to just get the battery feed circuit to work and charge my travel trailers batteries. I am trying to find out if the M4 fuse needs to be in place for it to opperate. Once this is "fixed" I will be adding the additional protection to keep the trailer from killing my vehicle battery.
If anyone knows about the M4 fuse please let me know.
I have the Tekonsha P3 and Etrailer says the power draw in sleep mode is so small there is no reason to worry.
I bought the specific harness for my 2011 Cherokee. Without the harness you would have to crimp the four wires from the Jeep harness to the four wires on the P3 harness using the revised wiring instructions. No big deal. I have the heavy duty factory tow BTW. Not sure if the brake controller plug exists on Wk2s without factory tow.
The battery drain doesn't come from the brake controller, it comes from the trailer itself. For example, if you have your travel trailer hooked up to your GC over night, it will use the GC battery (as well as the house battery) for any 12volt power your trailer might need. Eventually your trailer will drain the battery in your GC. An isolator will automatically disconnect the battery in your jeep from your trailer when the jeep isn't running.
Hi, I am a new 2012 GC Overland owner, but have had three other GC's in the last 25 years. I have a Prodegy Controller and a new harness but I am having a problem finding a good place to mount it. It looks like between the fuel door release button and the hood release is about the only place. What are others doing?
