Re: Train Horn

Dear Anti-Train Horn supporters,

To those of you that feel the need to harass and insult someone for wanting a train horn based on the fact you saw a video of someone abusing it, this is for you.

Assumption: Based on your stance/outbursts on this forum, I assume you will never own a train horn.

Given this assumption please go watch some YouTube video's about guns, having children and welfare.

Sincerely,
Society

Dubwarren,

All kidding aside, for the record, I didn't think the guys in the video where cool and I don't blow my airhorn on my truck to startle people. As stated, I have used it to "wake up" a left lane bandit but I was at a distance.

The way I see it, this is America and the freedom it allows creates infringements on other's rights. It happens all the time. I generally mind my own business, do no harm, and try not to police society. A little grace on my part for idiots helps my stress levels and that is important to me. Kids will be kids and punks will be punks. They can cross the line...and "get what's coming". I'm OK with some righteous indignation and I understand where you are coming from.

Internet forums are entertainment for me. They are full of people that vent for many reasons. Maybe their wife is cheating, or their kid is on drugs, or they were bullied, who knows? I try to consider that people are just ranting at times.

I am troubled by the "Jackass" crowd but also the Deputy DoRights, too. I've seen people on this forum lose their minds because someone made a video of a 0-60 test run on public roads or exceeded the speed limit. There's no reason for that...decaf helps, as someone mentioned!

I am a concerned citizen...a light hearted one, here to learn about Jeeps...and to not blow airhorns without caution. LOL!

Have a good day, sir.

Re: Train Horn

I think most people confuse the general category of "air horn" with "train horn". Real train horns generally have 3-4 trumpets, take up a ton of space and are quite expensive as they need to last a very long time and remain durable.

Since I retired I no longer can do that but I can still do the next best thing... get a plate number and/or vehicle description and call in a complaint. The end result will be the same.

What law is being broken by having the horn on your truck?

Excursion,

Well said.

Just so you know where I'm coming from-

I believe that an adult should be able to do whatever he or she wants as long as they don't harm another person. If everyone went that route I strongly believe the world would be a much better place.

I strongly believe in the freedoms that this country was built on. I have a problem with people who abuse those freedoms. I know the problems they cause, short and long term.

The thing with the air horn knocking a child of his bike kind of infuriated me. I spoke my mind about it. People have the right to disagree. People have to take my side. Either way my opinion won't waver.

And for the record, I've typed lol....I was embarrassed afterward...but I did it.

He blew the horn and she was so frightened that she fell into the street almost getting hit by the car blowing the horn. I have no idea how she didn't get hit by the car, needless to say I stopped the guy and arrested him. He fought it in court and lost due to my dash cam showing her almost getting hit by his car. Just throwing that out there, its highly possible that people can get hurt in more ways than just hearing damage.
How is that even an arrest able offense? While your right someone can get hurt but even in this case you said the girl didn't even get hit, so the person was charged with what could have happened?

Re: Train Horn

Yes, A train horn has 3 to 5 trumpets also called chimes too give it that one and only sound.A real train horn will be 150 db. to 190 db.

EPA states 120 db at 50ft. is the limit for a car or truck so that tells me i can buy a 130 db and be legal

A horn, gun, dog, etc. anything with a bad owner will end up bad !

I have buddies with big trucks and train horns and they use them when needed they don't drive around malls looking to goose people. The Po Po will take my C.D.L. in a heartbeat

Kids will be kids.

LOL! FYI, I work with a youth outreach and have teens at home so texting and abbreviations are embedded in my vernacular. I am an engineer by day so I have to switch modes for business. I can't stand business emails with all lower case and no punctuation...ugh!
